My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Update 8/10/2015 Nina is 4.8 pound, 7 year old yorkie being fostered in Clearwater, FL.

Nina is now estimated to be only 7 years old! FM had a feeling that the original 10-11 years old just wasn't fitting this playful little girl. It must have been those pesky infections making the first vet think she was a senior. She is 4.8 pounds and being fostered in Clearwater, FL.

Nina is so super sweet and excited to love and play with her family. We know she would have already been adopted if it wasn't for her need to be an only dog. Everyone who meets Nina absolutely loves her! She is ready to perch on your shoulder, lick your face, snuggle on your lap, and take walks around the neighborhood with you. Nina likes sleeping right next to her person, or in her own doggy bed, both options are perfectly fine with her. She likes playing with her toys and tugging on rope bones, even though she doesn't have very many teeth left. This little lady is very easy to please and all she asks for in return is to be the only dog in your life. Since Nina is so small, she cannot be adopted into a home with young children either. If you are a homebody, or a retired couple, wanting to spoil one very special dog who will spoil you with love in return, Nina may be your girl!

Update 7/18/2015 Nina is 4.8 pounds, an estimated 10 years old and is being fostered in Clearwater, FL.

Hi! It's me, Nina. My Foster Mom finally understood what I've been trying to say all along: I REALLY want to be the only dog in my forever home. I want all of the love and attention for myself. I'm so darn cute & I have a lot of lost loving time to make up for, so I really don't want to share my forever mom or dad with anyone else. After my rough life on the streets all alone, I think I deserve to finally have a lap or two all to myself. I am ADORABLE! I promise I'll thank you with tons of kisses until you make me stop. If you have to go to work, I guess I'll be fine, just as long as you come home to me as soon as you can and we get to spend every evening together, being in love. If you are retired, oh my, we could spend ALL day together. My dream is to finally be somebody's one & only."

Nina needs a home with no children and no other dogs.

Update 7/11/2015 Nina is estimated to be 10 years old, weighs 4.8 pounds and is now being
fostered in Clearwater, FL.

Nina was initially a stray found on the streets of Miami in awful condition. Now that her rotten teeth have been pulled, eyes and ears have been cleaned, medicated and healed, she is showing off just how adorable she has always been under all of that mess.

Nina has been in her new foster home for 3 weeks now and she is really starting to show her personality and come into her own. She is very busy and active. She may be estimated to be 10 years old, but she has the energy of 10 MONTHS old! Nina loves exploring a secured yard, trying to pick up and gnaw on chew toys (despite only having 4 teeth), and following her person around. One of her funniest tricks is "human climbing". She can act like a bird and perch on your shoulder if you're sitting on the couch, just to ensure she is the closest of all of the dogs to any possible kisses. She is not at all afraid to climb right over the other 2 dogs to make sure she "wins" FM's lap!

Nina is VERY picky about her fur friends. The first few days with her current fur brothers were a little scary for her, probably from her past life of having to survive on the streets alone. When Nina feels threatened she can lash out at the other pups in a sort of frenzied panic. Now that she is comfortable in her foster home, Nina loves to play and wrestle with Toby (another UYR foster pup), and she never seems to get nervous at all with him. We will have to be very careful introducing her to any new dogs because this little lady obviously as a traumatizing past that can trigger a significant response. If she goes to a home with other pets, she will need to be around very friendly, calm, and tolerant dogs willing to help her feel safe and ignore her PTSD during her transition.

There is nothing sweeter than the lightest and quick kisses from Nina's tiny, sideways tongue! Since she only has her top 4 front teeth, every lick seems to alternate out of one side of her mouth and then the other.

Nina cannot be adopted into a home with children under 14 due to her small and fragile size. She has a lot of love to give and lots of life left in her for playing and cuddling.

Nina is a tiny 4 lb. 10 year old Yorkie girl being fostered in Clearwater, FL.

Nina had a BIG day a few weeks ago. She underwent a spay and had some pretty major dental work. Little Nina was so sedated afterwards she needed to be syringe fed water and hand fed soft food for almost two days! But she eventually perked up and is now back to her old self. Her dental condition was worse than we had hoped…..Prolonged infection and lack of dental care over time took their toll and resulted in some bone loss in her jaw. When this happens, the teeth become to lose to save and that was the case for Nina. She lost a total of 13 teeth. On a positive note we were able to save 4 of her upper front teeth and with these and a diet of soft food and treats going forward she should manage just fine and she has begun eating and drinking on her own.

Nina is a fighter and she is in the process of regaining her health and strength. We feel like based on everything she has gone through recently it will likely be mid-June before she is ready to go to her forever home. However, we are already accepting applications for her so if you think this sweetheart would be a good addition to your home and have no small children under age 14 then please go ahead and apply for her. We would also appreciate it greatly if you would consider donating towards her medical care; Nina would really appreciate any help and sends tons of puppy kisses.
