Here's what the humans have to say about me:
MEET MAX
MAX (also known here as Maximilian) is an extremely handsome and healthy, 5.5 year old, 29.5 lb, black and tan German Standard Dachshund (AKC w/no papers). This exceptional, regal and loving Dachshund finds himself in the very sad position of needing a new forever family. His previous human family (that he has lived with all of his life) is no longer able to care for him so they have asked Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. to help him find a new loving, forever home. We're looking for a family with experience loving and raising this very special breed of Dachshund.
MAX is very intelligent, house-trained, crate-trained and knows some basic commands (like sit and stay and he is trained to wait to eat until you tell him to). He loves to go on walks (though he tends to pull on the leash a bit so he will need a bit more training). Although he hasn't really been around cats or little kids he loves playing with other dogs, especially running around the back yard with them. MAX loves to cuddle with his people... especially at bedtime and he's been known to enjoy a bit of phone conversation (or at least other people's conversations) and will talk at you when you're on the phone.
MAX will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds. Max would also do well with a well-mannered female doxie that he could have as a sister and 'confidante'. Could this be your family? If so, please get that Adoption Questionnaire in (download at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net).
Like all Dachshunds, MAX is high energy and enjoys playing and warming his little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around his neighborhood, MAX needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.
OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.
WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:
All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.
Can you give MAX a happy, carefree life again? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in contact with you within 48-72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
