Portia's Story...
**Portia is currently living in an amazing foster home in Houston, Texas, but she’s ready for her very own family. She’s available for out-of-state adoption.**

Portia is gorgeous Chihuahua/ Dachshund mix with the cutest little brown eye patch. She is about 1 1/2 years old and just 11 pounds. She’s small, but has a sturdy build. Her personality is one of the best. She’s defined by the phrase happy-go-lucky because she loves life and everything in it. Her life was not always so simple, but fortunately dogs don’t dwell on the past.

Portia was obviously dumped by a person at the Port of Houston (hence her name) just days before the big Memorial Day storms. A very concerned Houstonian tried to catch her every day after she noticed her the first time. Portia would run across the busy road in front of the big trucks and this lady was terrified for her safety. One day Portia was moving really slow and her rescuer was able to follow her into the bushes where had taken up shelter. There she found Portia had given birth to 2 very new, tiny puppies and was trying her best to keep them safe. She had dug a hole, placed them in it and sat right next to them. She was exhausted, malnourished and was days away from her last. The 2 puppies sadly didn’t survive the trauma of their first few days, but Portia got a new lease on life. She got an amazing foster mom who built her up physically and emotionally and saved her life. She’s ready to have yet another new beginning with her forever family.

This sweetheart gets along great with every person she’s met since her rescue and loves all dogs. You can tell that she’s appreciative for everything that’s happened since that big day. You just can’t go wrong with her…unless you are looking for a large dog, of course. Her photo with the toddler explains it all…just sweet and gentle. She loves to constantly be around her people and her dogs. She currently lives with 3 dogs in her foster family that range from 10 to 65 pounds, so she’s good with all. She and the others run and play chase then come inside for some snuggle time in the chair. The chair gets crowded, but they make it work.

Portia loves to play with her dog friends and can play gently or rev it up a bit when the big dogs are in on it. She is an active girl, despite her size. She has recently learned to walk on a leash and is doing considerably well since she’d probably never been on one prior to her rescue. She does really well keeping pace when walking with another dog or two. She loves to take short or long car rides and just sits back and enjoys everything flying by. She also loves snack time and takes them gently from your hands.

She is a bedtime junkie because she sleeps with her foster mom and just can’t wait for that moment when it’s time to snuggle up. She runs in the room, jumps up on the bed, cuddles and plays for a few minutes and then burrows down to her snuggly spot under the covers all the way down at your feet. She stays there all night and that’s in Texas! She would really enjoy that in a place with cooler temperatures.

Portia is not just a happy chick…she’s a healthy one too. She’s spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped and heartworm negative. She is potty, crate and leash trained. She is great little dog and her foster mom says that she worked her way right into her heart. She is just sweet, loving, playful and happy!! Her adoption fee is $450 to cover the costs of her airline flight, travel crate and bed. Why Adoption is a Great Option

Portia, a Denver Chihuahua/Dachshund dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Chihuahua/Dachshund for sale in Denver, or seeking a Chihuahua/Dachshund dog from a breeder in Denver.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Denver already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Denver breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Chihuahua/Dachshund breeders who help with Chihuahua/Dachshund rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Denver paves the way for another one to be saved.
