My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello everybody! My name is Roxanne. I'm a 7-month-old spayed female Pit Bull puppy. Right now I weigh approximately 26 pounds, but I have a little bit of growing to do.

As you've probably noticed, I'm a very special pup. When I was developing in my momma's stomach things didn't exactly go the way they were supposed to. Consequently, I was born with a condition called Ectrodactyly - more commonly referred to as "lobster claw". I wasn't in any pain, but it did make it difficult to walk.

My situation was something that I could have lived with, but my friends thought it was unnecessary - especially when I could just have the limb removed and be able to get around more easily. They decided that amputation would be the most beneficial option for me, and now that I've had the surgery, I'm much more comfortable. I may only have three legs, but that doesn't stop me from wagging my tail non-stop!

My sister and I were dumped at the shelter by family members of our previous owner. The story is that our owner passed away and the family decided to keep our other two siblings, but take my sister and I to a high-kill shelter. Why they didn't keep me is anybody's guess. Surely they would have known that I would be difficult to adopt out with my deformity. I guess that wasn't something they cared about.

Luck finally found us, though! CageFree was at the shelter pulling dogs and they were introduced to us. They saw that I was at a disadvantage and decided that I shouldn't have to spend another day at the shelter. As bonus, they took my sister, too! I couldn't be happier.

I'm a little on the shy side so I'm looking for a family that will go slow with me and help me build my confidence. Once I'm fully healed from my surgery, I'm really going to love running around the yard and playing with all my toys. If you don't have a yard, that's okay, too. We can go to the dog park or go for a hike. Three legged dogs can still do all kinds of stuff!

If I sound like a good fit for your family, please contact CageFree and tell them you want to meet me. I'll be waiting!
