My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

COURTESY POST FOR 4 KEEPS ANIMAL RESCUE: Meet Joey!

Hi, I'm Joey! I am a Dachshund/Chihuahua mix ("Chiweenie"). I weigh around 12 lbs. and I am 3 1/2-4 years old. I am energetic, loving, playful and alert, but I also like to cuddle in your lap and sleep under the covers! I love having my back and ears rubbed and I love to be held. I love wearing sweaters in the winter too. Since my fur is short, I can get cold when outside. I am very smart -- I can sit, lie down, shake paws, roll over, catch and play dead (just point your finger at me and say, "bang, bang"). I get along well with most other small dogs -- my foster family has several and I do well with them. Big dogs intimidate me or get me overexcited -- cats do too. I also like to bark at squirrels when I see them outside. My new family must have a fenced yard, since I love to run and I am really fast! I am an excellent traveler, and I love going for car rides, but I am not so crazy about being left at home alone for really long periods of time. I am pretty reliably housetrained, though if left alone too long, I may have the occasional accident. I am crate trained and I walk well on a leash. I'm an all-around sweet and snuggly little guy! Please give me a chance to be your newest family member.

Joey's adoption contribution is $200. If you are interested in adopting Joey, please fill out an application at www.4keepsanimalrescue.org

Adoption and Foster Care Application

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Why is labeling a dog such a big deal? A label will stick with a dog for the rest of its life. A label can mean discrimination, losing its home or even death. Labels are a problem for the dogs when we, as the local experts on animals, allow adopters, politicians and community members to think that the label we assign can predict who that dog is or will be.

Adoption Process:
Complete the application at www.pawsforliferescue.org. We then arrange a location, date and time for you to meet some pets. If the meeting goes well and everyone is happy, you begin the mandatory, minimum two-week adjustment period with the pet as part of your family. You will pay the non-refundable adoption fee at the start of the two-week adjustment period. This pending period allows your new dog or cat time to adjust to their new home, new people, new routine, etc., and for you to decide if it's a match and the right pet for you. At the end of two weeks (some people extend the adjustment time as needed and that's fine too), if everyone is happy, then we finalize the adoption. Feel free to email if you have any questions.
