My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Candy is fostered in Urbandale IA, 60083 through United Yorkie Rescue.
To find out more about Candy contact her foster momma: page_benson@yahoo.com
Candy’s a beautiful 6 year old, petite 5 lb. female Yorkie who came to United Yorkie Rescue in June 2015. She was a breeder release and used for breeding, not as a pet, so she’s very scared and nervous. Any loud noises make her jump with fear, she follows foster momma around the house, at a distance. Dogs such as Candy need patience and time being show love and affection so they learn touch is a good thing. She wants to trust, and comes up with the other dogs for petting and rubbing, but when doing so comes halfway to investigate and then backs away, lingering at a distance watching the other dogs. Having another dog in the home is beneficial, as she learns by example, and has companionship she’s used to. She can be picked up, but does not come willingly at this point. She will lie on her foster momma’s lap and sleep while being gently petted. She very much wants to receive attention, and is slowing learning so with consistent patience it shouldn’t take too much longer for her to warm up more to seeking attention on her own.
Candy has some movement issues with her hips, due to age but more likely caused for her being bred over and over again, so she takes a daily Glucosamine. She’s been spayed and was found to have terrible adhesions and scar tissue internally, sadly again due to multiple C-sections.
Candy needs a home with no small children, as she could easily be hurt. She gets along well with other small dogs, she is terrified of large dogs, and we’re not sure about cats since she hasn’t been around them during her time with United Yorkie Rescue.
Candy loves to be outdoors on warm sunny days, and is a flight risk, so a fenced in yard is a must for her. She’s checked the perimeter of her foster home, looking for ways to escape, so a well maintained fence with no gaps for escape is required. Candy is micro chipped.
Candy and her foster sister Mandy go in a play pen at night where they cuddle into their beds and sleep all night. She has accidents in the house once in a while, but this is due to her years spent in a cage. She is working on potty training and will do her business outdoors, but she won’t let you know when she needs to go out, yet. Candy’s a delightful little lady, very small and dainty. She will be the ultimate little love bug given time, love and affection.
