Wilson's Story...
I’m a 2-year-old Turkish Van mix. People say that my fur is the color of freshly fallen snow. Turkish Vans are a rare and ancient breed, we're known to be athletic and intelligent. I’m a very sweet boy, but the world hasn’t been kind to me in the past. I was someone’s pet, but I somehow ended up living outside under a deck, scared and alone. The vet even found pellets stuck in my back from being shot with a pellet gun. What’s worse is that I was attacked by a feral cat and I was diagnosed with Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, or FIV. My disease is not contagious to people or dogs. It can be transmitted to other cats through deep bite wounds, so I can successfully live with other cats that are FIV positive or even cats that don’t have FIV. I will need to be kept indoors only, but other than that, I’m still capable of living a normal life, I eat regular cat kibble, use my litter box and get vaccinated regularly just like other cats. I’m neutered, updated on my vaccines and microchipped. I’m just looking for someone to give me a chance because I desperately want to be in a home. I’ve experienced a scary and unfortunate life so far. You can be the person that saves me and shows me how it truly feels to be loved and part of a family.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Wilson, a Truckee Turkish Van cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Turkish Van for sale in Truckee, or seeking a Turkish Van cat from a breeder in Truckee.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Truckee already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Truckee breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Turkish Van breeders who help with Turkish Van rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Truckee paves the way for another one to be saved.
