My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Age: 20 months
Gender: Male
Color: Black & White
Weight: 57 lbs
Variety: Bench

Meet Cooper! This energetic boy is all Springer and then some. He came to ESRA because his owners did not realize how much energy Springers have, and they did not have the energy or time to commit to training Cooper. He was kept in an outdoor kennel for about six months. When he didn't calm down, the owners called ESRA to help.

It turned out that Cooper needed attention. He quickly stopped clawing desperately when he realized that in his foster home, attention is ongoing and consistent. Cooper is very sweet, and he loves people. He enjoys playing with his foster family, which includes a teenaged boy, and with the other two other dogs he has met so far. Cooper is wary of other dogs at first, but he is not aggressive. His behavior with cats is unknown.

Cooper is learning house-dog manners. He is doing very well with crate training, and he is eager to please. Cooper loves to play fetch and get a back scratch. He will need to work on leash manners and riding in the car.

His new home will need to have a six-foot fence; he is jumping the four-foot fence at his foster home to chase cars. Adopters should be open to the possibility of using a trainer to help Cooper break some bad habits. He is an excellent candidate for agility! He needs an outlet for his energy.

Cooper, our diamond in the rough, has AKC papers. He just needs your guidance in order to become the perfect pet!

Please note that an approved adoption application is the first step in a more thorough interview process that is designed to match each dog to exactly the right family, and that the final decision rests with the dog's case manager.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Cooper.
