My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ooohhh, the sweetness. This little girl is a gem and a trooper! Trudy is 5 yrs old & weighs 10 lbs. Her person was entering hospice care & DREAM was called upon to help her out. Her family loved her very much and wanted to make sure she would be okay in the upheaval.

Why is this little one so special? Trudy has IVDD (a very common spinal condition in dachshunds). At the time of her surrender, she was enduring severe neck pain. We have treated her for the neck pain & she is in a rest and therapy period that should be complete at the end of August. Trudy still has full front mobility & control over her bodily functions, and is working on regaining the use of her back legs. Her tail works just fine, as you can see from her happy wags when she sees someone she knows. She's a true social butterfly and has the personality to deal with her disability with panache and grace. If Trudy were a person, she'd go through life with "jazz hands!" Despite her former injuries, she is full of spunk & nothing seems to slow her down. Trudy has quite the amazing spirit.

If you are interested in adopting Trudy, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to dreamhappytails.org/adoptform.shtml. Trudy 's adoption fee is $250. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Trudy will go to her new home microchipped, spayed, heartworm tested, and up to date on vaccinations. Most dogs' veterinary expenses are greater than our adoption fees.

DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group, and we focus on the Atlanta, North Georgia and Savannah area. Because we are all volunteers, we can consider applications only within an hour of these areas. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back.
