Lizzie is getting a new lease on life. No new cancer appears to be forming,  AND her breathing problems have been diagnosed as congestive heart failure. She is on 3 meds which should make a huge difference for her. Many dogs with congestive heart failure live for many years as long as their meds are maintained. Lizzie has lost a little weight too which should help. She's down to 11 pounds. You go, Lizzie girl!
12/16/16 Update
Lizzie recently had surgery to remove mammary tumors. She sailed through the surgery and has been doing great, but her pathology report paints an unhappy picture. The tumors are malignant and spreading. The vets feel the cancer will most likely move to her lungs and will not be conducive to surgery, so SCMR and her foster mom will continue to care for Lizzie and see that she has the happiest life possible until she starts to suffer from the cancer. We are heartbroken because we had such hopes for Lizzie. As you can see from her video, she is happy and looks great! Won't you consider sponsoring Lizzie for the time she has left and be an angel for her? Your donation for Lizzie is tax deductible. Thank you for caring about sweet Lizzie.
Little Lizzie has upgraded to a wienermobile! What an intrepid old girl! Lizzie is a 12 pound, 10+ year old lap dog...good with other dogs, cats and even children. She just needs a new place to hang her hat and call home. Lizzie has lost all her teeth so no expensive dentals are needed for her in the future. She does have a fistula that will need monitoring but appears to give her no trouble for now. She is house trained and that's always a plus! Like many of us, she is getting a little fuzzy seeing due to immature cataracts, but she still gets around just fine. We are working on her coat which is a bit thin possibly due to substandard food. So she's eating better now! And Lizzie does have a heart murmur which may require medication. But she still has a lot of get up and go.
Lizzie's got her motor running in Nashville, TN.

Out-of-state adoptions are possible; however, the approved adoptive home is responsible for making the necessary arrangements to pick up their new little one.

About SCMR - TN

About Our Rescue Group...

We are dedicated to rescuing and caring for Maltese and other toy breeds (as room allows) who are either rescued from shelters, found as strays, or no longer wanted by their family.

We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization so all donations are tax deductible. These little dogs need YOUR help now. SCMR takes in many "extreme-needs" Maltese and our vet bills can be very high. Every little bit helps. Additionally we can always use things such as dog beds, heartworm preventative, flea preventative, harnesses etc. Donations can be made out to SCMR and mailed to:

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our dogs are in wonderful foster homes, throughout the US, primarily in the southeast.. We are sorry, but there is no "shelter" available for you to visit.

We are committed to finding the best home possible for each of our little ones, so that they don't end up in a similar situation down the road. Out of state adoptions are possible. The new owner is required to help with the transportation of the dog though, as we will not ship them. Additionally, all dogs requiring transportation must have a crate or seatbelt harness for their safety.

Can't adopt? Consider being a FOSTER PARENT. All foster homes undergo the same screening that an adoptive home will. You must be committed to the potential lifetime care of the animals and be responsible for helping select and qualify their forever homes. IF YOU CAN FOSTER, please fill out a FOSTER APPLICATION.

Our Adoption Process...

To be considered to adopt one of our babies, please fill out an APPLICATION. A PDF version of the application is also available for download. Adopting any animal takes a lot of commitment. We require an application, reference check, home visit, and adoption donations depending upon the age of the animal and the medical expenses. Each dog has had all vaccinations, been dewormed, heartworm tested (and treated if necessary), dental (if needed), spay/neuter, and any other medical attention he/she needs. The adoption fee helps recover a PORTION of the money spent on each rescued animal.
We need COMPLETED applications; we cannot start the adoption approval process unless we have a fully completed application.

If you do not supply complete information on your APPLICATION, we do not have time to track it all down. Vet contact information on your application is very important, please include it.

PLEASE CAREFULLY READ THE BIO OF ANY DOG IN WHICH YOU ARE INTERESTED SINCE THERE MAY BE ADOPTION RESTRICTIONS. We do NOT adopt to homes with children under the age of 10 years or homes with Electric Fences.

Homes with fenced yards are given preference to those without (all other things being equal).

Please understand that this is a volunteer effort and we all work full time in addition to doing rescue. Any help in speeding up the adoption process is appreciated. We will get back to you as soon as possible.

** NOTE** We do NOT encourage giving pets as GIFTS. However, you may pay the adoption fee as a 'gift' for your special someone, but we will require an adoption application to be completed by the adopter (recipient of your 'gift').

Our dogs come to us from various sources including shelters. We do not always know the full history of the dog, some have come from abusive or neglectful situations. We will share as much information on the dogs as we can with 'approved prospective homes'.

When an application is approved, the home check goes well, and all vet references and application information checks out, a signed and notarized contract is required to finalize the adoption process. MS Word and PDF versions of our Adoption Contract are available for download from our website,
