Update 8/13/15: Judd and Ashley have been adopted! Please consider adopting Naomi! Naomi deserves to find her forever home. She was the sweetest mom to her babies. She has always been loving, gentle, and so appreciative of any attention given to her. She is a winner and someone will be lucky to add her to their family.
Update 8/6/15: Naomi, Ashley and Judd enjoyed some playtime in the newly-opened interaction pens at the shelter today. (see new 1st photo)
Such a beautiful family! Ashley and Judd (the puppies) both have applications at this point for when they are old enough to be adopted, but early applications for puppies often fall through as adopters find readily available puppies instead.
Naomi has been a great mom, taking care of her puppies, but it's almost time for her to find someone to care for her and treat her like the young sweet dog she is. She's been great with the children (including toddlers) she's met at the shelter, and is quietly curious about the other dogs.
Naomi has tested negative for heartworms and has $250 sponsorship for rescue. She is only available to rescue until her milk dries up enough that she can be spayed.
Update 7/27: Naomi tested negative for heartworms! I’m so happy – she’s a sweet dog but isn’t going to have an easy time finding a home because of her breed and her waistline, so it’s particularly wonderful that she doesn’t have another strike against her.
Update 7/21: Naomi is a wonderful mama and a fun dog. Giving her a break from nursing and tending to her puppies, I like taking Naomi to an interaction pen for some one on one time. She enjoys the attention but also likes to play fetch. I’ll throw a toy, and she’s very good about bringing it back. She loves the treats, praise, and pets that follow and is ready to keep playing. Naomi is such a good-natured dog. Ashley and Judd are really growing and have started running about the kennel. Sometimes I see Naomi playing with them and teaching them the things that puppies need to know. I really wish a rescue would pull this little family. It won’t be long before Ashley and Judd will be ready leave their mama, and Naomi will need a new home of her own. She’s sweet, beautiful, and full of joy and love.
7/6: Naomi is the beautiful, proud mama of little Judd and Ashley. This family is only available to rescue because the puppies are still nursing. When an Animal Control officer found Naomi she was in distress frantically looking for two missing pups. The officer was familiar with the family and knew that originally there were four puppies. Naomi was running about searching under a trailer and even broke through a shed hoping to find her babies. The officer also searched but was not able to find them. Fortunately, Judd and Ashley are safe, but this dear family now needs a rescue. Naomi is a friendly girl who didn’t mind sharing her puppies with me at all. She enjoyed pets and attention and was fine when I held her little ones. Naomi is a sweet girl, and Judd and Ashley are adorable. The pound is no place for a nursing mama and her young pups. I hope a rescue saves them soon.
