Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Sandy is a special girl! She is deaf and she doesn't let that limit her. She has learned how to live without her hearing, so good-in fact, that for the first couple of weeks I kept debating if I thought she really was deaf. I have never fostered a dog who can't hear before but I can tell you that there are many advantages to having and training a hearing impaired dog. Sandy was a shelter favorite, I am assuming they loved her wiggly butt and her silly smiles. Sandy is adorable and unique, when you meet her, her personality shows her true beauty and you instantly light up from her happiness. I especially love her freckles and stand up ears, she is a perfect size-a great medium. Sandy enjoys living with other dogs and once she makes friends, can entice pretty much any dog to have a good time. Even with her playful energy, Sandy can be very mellow. On the whole, I would describe Sandy as medium energy, she enjoys having fun but inside the house spends most of her time lounging/curling up on the couch, watching squirrels out the window or chewing on Nylabones. She is potty and crate trained. Sandy makes me laugh on a daily basis, she is hoping someone will see her silly, loving, and happy self and give her a forever home! Sandy is estimated to be about 1 year old and weighs about 41 pounds. Since we don't know at all what doggy genes are in the dogs make up (we don't know who mom and dad are!), we are just guessing on breed.
All dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. They have all had a vet exam, are up to date on vaccinations, have been given a dewormer, are treated for fleas, have a heartworm test if over 6 months old and are up to date on a heartworm preventative.
Please note that because we require a home visit at the time of adoption we can only place animals in homes within a 60 mile radius of Minneapolis. If you are interested in meeting this dog please fill out the pre-adoption application on our website at http://www.safehandsrescue.org under Adopt and we will get back to you to arrange a meeting in the foster home.
We also have an Adoptable Dog Meet & Greet on Saturday January 23, 2016, at Fetch Delivers Warehouse, 783 Harding St. NE. Suite 150, Minneapolis, MN 55413, from noon - 2 pm. Occasionally dogs cannot make it to the Meet & Greet, therefore feel free to verify if your dog of interest is able to attend. Please bring a copy of your pre-adoption application.
