My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Gilligan
Male Shih Tzu, liver and white
Weight: 9#
Date of Birth: 12-19-2007
Adoption fee: $125
Came to rescue 8-1-15 Fenced yard required for Gilligan

Gilligan spent his life in a large-scale breeding facility where he was prized for his coloring. When he was "retired", the breeder gave Gilligan to rescue.

This little guy gets along great with other dogs. He imitates the dogs he lives with, and he's learning very quickly from the well-trained dogs in his foster home. He likes to play with toys and his foster siblings. Being with other dogs will continue to play a huge part in his life and he must have a canine companion to mimic. This is how he learns quickly. Gilligan had to watch the dogs enjoy being petted before he would come to a person. He didn't understand human affection.

Gilligan is still getting used to living inside a house and having humans around. He's not afraid of us but because he's never had a name... he's starting from scratch. Thankfully, he's a quick learner! He's a little overwhelmed by large open spaces such as the back yard. He does best when he can follow another dog(s) to learn the routines. Until he is housetrained, we use a simple bellyband for this little fella. With a bellyband, he doesn't need to be confined to a crate and he has more time to investigate his new world with his new friends. We take it off when he goes outside to potty.

Because of Gilligan's life story, he is looking for someone who will be patient with him and understand that he might never be a cuddly little lap dog. It's certainly possible, but not definite. It will take him some time to understand and appreciate his new human family. And the time you invest in this wonderful little guy will be well-spent because until he left the breeder, he had nothing.
