My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Purdy and Pongo are a bonded pair who have a history that can only be described as a love story.

Their story began when they were both abandoned by their separate owners and were left to fend for themselves. Pongo took Purdy under his wing and taught her how to catch food and cross the streets. When humans weren’t kind to them they have always had each other. The pair was rescued only about 24 hours before Purdy delivered a litter of 11 brindle coated puppies. While in our care it was discovered that the pair needed a very healthy dose of TLC. Pongo soon began treatment for heartworm disease and later underwent surgery to correct a condition in which his eyelashes were flipped inward causing him intense pain and irritation every minute. As long-term strays, it wasn’t an easy adjustment for the pair to learn to be pets again, but with several careful and nurturing hands they’ve begun to see how comfortable living inside a house really is.

Purdy loves treats and makes friends very easily when food is involved. She loves to be around people as she’s very loving and sweet. Though Pongo is a very friendly dog, he’s more reserved with his choice of friends and is usually more than content with just being near you. A kiss from Pongo is a very rare and special thing that should be cherished when it’s given. He loves to lie on his dog bed and watch out the window into the neighborhood.

Purdy and Pongo are now healthy and ready to be placed up for adoption. As a bonded pair, they must be placed together in a cat-free home where they will be inside dogs. The couple does best when exercised and walked at least once a day and are well behaved on a leash. While they’re doing very well in their training thus far, they still have a ways to go, and will therefore require a strong, confident leader who is committed to giving them structure and meeting their training goals. Purdy and Pongo would do best in a home where they wouldn’t be left alone for long periods of time.
