What's my story?  It's quite a story.  On 4/19/2013 a cute little dog was taken to the local shelter after being found by police.  No microchip was found and no owner came forward so the people at the shelter started looking for a home .On 5/28/2013 they found that home with a lady named Elizabeth.  It could have happened anywhere in the Carolina's, right?  Sure it could - but Whiskers was found running at large - in Oregon.  That's a far piece from South Carolina.

Two years later, our Whiskers is once again picked up running at large.  This time, a scan of his little body found a microchip implanted by the Oregon shelter he was adopted from.  The chip was registered but attempts to contact the owner have gone unanswered. The phone # on record rings fast busy and the email's are ignored.  After working with our new partner in Oregon on this, we've all agreed that it's best to find Whiskers a good home right here.

What is my personality like?   Whiskers has some behavioral issues, and a home without children is a must. He will show you his teeth, growl and snap over many things. He is a big resource guarder. He will guard his crate, his food, his toys, his treats, his friends and most importantly his human. Whiskers can be quite temperamental, possibly an indication of a bad past.

He is in love with one of CPR's employees and does great with her. She can handle him, get him out of the crate, etc. Even with her, however, he will growl and guard treats. He also does not like his faced to be touch.

On the positive side, he is a real cuddle bug. .He knows how to gives hugs and loves to show you. He will lay his little head on your shoulder to let you know he is there and that he loves you. Whiskers is very playful and loves to play with other dogs his size.

Ideally, finding a trainer would be best. He seems to like women more than men and would thrive best in a home with someone that lives completely alone.

Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture, and not to discriminate against older dogs. You never know which dog will steal your heart when you meet them!

How I act when I first meet new people:  Scared

Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.

To apply, please visit our webpage at and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application.

Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.

Also as with all of our fosters we reserve the right to refuse adoption for any reason. We do what is best for the pets.
