Winn - IN TRAINING's Story...
Are you looking for a very smart deaf guy? My name is Winn and I am a young 85 pound DEAF Boxer mix boy who just entered the RPSM Correction Companion program on August 14th for nine weeks of training. I love socializing with all the other dogs and trainers in my program and I enjoy the attention from people. Did I tell you that I’m one of the FAVORITES of everyone here? Everyone wants to pet me and I’m always willing to lean on them for a good neck rub where I will start to rotate my rear leg like I’m kick starting and everyone gets a kick out of it. I have been working on my basic commands with hand signals and I fully understand the “THUMBS UP” hand signal to mean GOOD! I also recognize the hand signal for “IT” and I am learning to “FOCUS HEEL” during my walks where I always look up at my trainers for what I’m supposed to be doing. Soon I will begin training with a vibration collar or v-collar and this type of collar is a training collar that allows a person to press a button on a remote control device, which then sends a signal to the collar, causing it to vibrate and get my attention. The vibration signal for a deaf dog becomes the equivalent of using voice to get the attention of a hearing dog.
I’m neutered and UTD on all my vaccines, HW, FT, and have a microchip of my own. RPSM recommends children 12 years and older. I will require a standard fenced in yard to keep me safe. If you are interested in adopting me, please go to www.rpsm.org to fill out an application. My adoption fee is $300.
