Here's what the humans have to say about me:
This cute little guy is Leo. Leo thinks he is a Golden Retriever even though he looks like a Black and Tan Coonhound mix. Leo is 14 weeks old and is being mentored by 3 Golden Retriever therapy dogs that he lives with in his foster home. He knows how to fetch like a Retriever and loves playing other games with them. He wants to sound like his buddies, so he has not learned the hound howl. Leo is a very gentle puppy who does not jump up on people or chew on them like most puppies his age. Leo prefers snuggling with his people. Leo is a very smart guy who already knows his basic commands and does well on a leash. If you are interested in getting a young dog that could become a therapy dog, Leo may be the dog for you. His foster brothers and humans could tell you more about being a therapy dog and why Leo would be a good candidate.
Leo did have a past to overcome. Leo was dumped at the city shelter and ended up unconscious at the emergency vet where he spent five days. He was one sick little puppy who had hookworms and fleas attacking him. The hookworms attacked his GI tract to the point he needed blood transfusions and plasma. His intestinal tract was bleeding and inflamed so his body wasn’t able to absorb any nutrients from food. As soon as Leo got rid of the pesky worms and fleas he started to thrive. Leo is now a normal, happy, playful puppy.
Leo currently weighs 25 pounds but will probably be a 50-60 pound adult. He is housetrained, neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped.
