My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name: Fred

Age: 1 1/2 to 2 years old.

Breed/Weight/Coloring: Fred is a dainty and delicate creamy beige terrier. He is scruffy and has minimal upkeep as far as grooming. He weights roughly 10-12 pounds.

Rescue History: Fred was abandoned in the L.A. city shelter system by his previous owners. His current foster mama happened to be on the prowl a few weeks after his abandonement on the shelter website looking to rescue and save a life. She stumbled upon Fred's terrified looking shelter picture and knew she had to help him get out. She is now providing Fred with his temporary home filled with love, stability, and guidance while we search for his forever home.

Personality: In the shelter, Fred was like a deer in the headlights. This was the first glimpse of him we got to know. As the other dogs were pushing their way to the front of the cage barking for attention - Fred was coward near the back trying to hide in his own skin. The shelter was pretty traumatizing for the little fellow to say the least. Once Fred's foster mom took him home, his rehab started. He has come such a long way! Initially freezing in fear when her teenage son rubbed his belly, now he lays belly up in his arms sleeping like a baby. Fred goes to the dogpark on a daily basis and romps around initiating games of chase. His favorite past time is to run up and down the fence that separates the big dogs from the small dogs...he has quite a few big dog friends that he gets to frolick back and forth with him. Fred has bonded with his foster mom quite intensely and does not like to be away from her, he has a little bit of difficulty when she leaves for work but as he gains confidence and trust, that is slowly becoming less and less. The foster mom let's him freely roam the house when she isn't home and he's fine and not destructive. When they are home hanging out, Fred likes to gnaw on a treat filled bone...his tiny little teeth actually can do quite a bit of damage so he really loves his chew toys. He likes to be within her view most of the time but will occasionally independently venture off, yet always makes sure she is by his side. He resides with a few cats and deos not pay them any mind, as well as an old grumpy dog who he has learned to leave alone. Fred loves his new found life of structure, guidance, and praise. He and his foster mom go on long walks around Balboa Lake and he has learned the most impeccable manners under her training. She has taught him to sit as dogs pass him by and politely greets other dogs only if she allows him to do so. Fred is about 99% housebroken, he will wait by the door in his foster home or become very ansy and pace near his foster mom's feet to let her know he has to go. He is extremely well mannered on a leash (he does not go out in public off leash) and has become so well trained to his foster mom's "call" for him that all she has to do is say it once and he comes sprinting to her side. Fred is one smart boy and learns fast - he is very eager to please and seeks the praise from his foster mom as his reward. He is proud to belong to someone and even more proud to please those he loves.

Medical: Fred is neutered, current on vaccines, microchipped, and has zero health problems.

Would do best: Fred would do best in a home where they have a good amount of time to spend with him. He is a very sensitive boy and craves human attention and companionship. He enjoys the closeness of his human and has become used to sleeping in his foster mom's bed as well as spending alot of quality time together. He doesn't necessarily need a yard if he gets a good walk or 2 a day or a dogpark outing. He's an overall good little boy for a couple looking to have a companion pet or a doggy friend for an already existing pet.

Cats/Dogs/Kids: Fred peacefully coexists with his feline friends beautifully. He is a nice friend to his doggy friends at the dogpark, big and small. He is a playful little guy in the right environment so an equally playful dog would be a good match. He would do well with teens and up - he isn't overly fond of young children however he would NEVER hurt one....he just doesn't prefer to engage with them as much as he does adults.
