My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

KIMBER is a 5 year old spayed black female Lab who weighs 70 pounds. Kimber is a very sweet, friendly, calm girl. She lived with a cat and children. She is easy on leash and very calm. She had a rough life before coming to us but is flourishing with our love and attention. Kimber's Story: Poor Kimber was given up to a local SPCA by her owners. She had a nasty wound on her foot that they said she had for a month and they could not afford to take her to the vet! It turned out to be a cell carcinoma growth which was removed with good margins by amputating two toes. There is a low possibility of regrowth. The loss of her toes will not affect her ability to walk, run or play. We also treated her for fleas, and ear infection and an eye infection. Kimber is housebroken. She has never been crated but her previous owners said she did not bother anything when she was in the house. She is good on leash. Good with other dogs and lived with a cat. She is approved for kids 5+.

Update (9/12): When Kimber came in she had a squamous cell carcinoma growth which was removed with good margins by amputating her toe. Biopsy of mass showed it to be subungual squamous cell carcinoma which was removed with good margins.
Recently she developed a mass on the adjacent toe which looked like it may be infected. Took her to our vet for an examination of the mass, during the exam besides the mass on his foot they found that her right prescapular lymph node to be enlarged (golf ball size). They performed a fine needle aspirate of the mass and found it to be a squamous cell carcinoma. After consulting with an oncologist vet they believe that the squamous cell carcinoma had already spread
As a check an X-ray of chest, heart & lung showed them to be clear. Our vets concluded that this is a type of cancer and because of the way it spreads it is not treatable
Kimber is having fun with her foster family who will show her love and fun times for as long as she's with us.
She is available for adoption if anyone has the heart to bring her into their lives for a short time.

Update (8/23): Kimber's Keynotes:
Good morning everyone! It's been a busy week at my foster home so I didn't have a lot of time to write. Wonderful things have happened to me though. As you know, I had to have a toe removed on my right front paw because I had a tumor. It was horrible looking when my original owners took me to the shelter but Francee French Schuma from Southside SPCA called Tommie Spain Clare with Lab Rescue and they have saved my life. I was taken to Animal Medical Center (foster Mom calls it Deer Run) & they fixed me right up! They removed the tumor with clean margins and took an x-ray that showed nothing had spread! There is a low possibility of regrowth! I'm told that once I heal completely, I should be able to walk and run without any problems at all. Yay for me!!!
I now have full run of the house and last night I slept on a dog bed in my foster parents room with all the resident girls. I'm on a grain free food that's yummy and I'm starting to see a shine in my coat! I get fed on a regular basis too and boy do I get happy. Can I tell you that I love to eat! Foster Mom says she sees a new part of me each day as I continue to heal. All I know is that I'm sleeping better and feel way better.
I'm available for adoption. I'm 5 years old and weigh around 70 pounds. I'm approved for children 5 and up. My previous owners said that I lived with a cat so I'm cat approved too! If you're looking for a sweet, somewhat laid back girl that just loves attention, I'm your girl. Call your AC to come visit me in Lynchburg!
Love,
Kimber
PS: Can you tell how relaxed I am now? Life is good!

Update (8/18): Kimber's Keynotes:
Hi everyone. Kimber here. As you know I had surgery on my paw so don't be alarmed about my plastic boot in the video. It's there to keep dirt from getting into my suture site so it can heal. I'm hopeful that I only have to wear it a few more days. Foster Mom says I must be starting to feel better because I have started to play. I love being outside and that squeaker ball was fantastic! When I heard it, I just had to have it. I ran just a little but then I just chewed on it. I love the sound of the squeaker!
So, I'm a 5 year old girl that was given up by my family because they couldn't take care of me. I had to have the tumor and a few toes removed off my foot but they got very clean margins. I also had to have a chest x-ray and everything was clean there. I'm still taking a few antibiotics but I'm almost done with those too. Foster Mom says that it's good that I'm so sweet because I have STINKY dog! She can't wait to give me a bath. You know, I might have to agree with her and I think I might like a bath. I'm looking for my forever family and I'm approved for children 5 and up. Call your adoption coordinator to come visit me in Lynchburg!
Love,
Kimber
