My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What a sweet and kind Maltese/Schnauzer our Rudy is! These mixes are being opportunistically bred for their adorable looks, non-shedding cotton-soft coats and great temperaments. As a result of this human greed, these pups are being bred, sold for very high prices or dumped if they have any challenges. Farfel's Rescue is very happy to rescue these dogs and find them nurturing and committed homes. At 2.5 years old and just about 14 lbs, Rudy is an incredibly beautiful guy who truly deserves a break in life.

We all know Rudy has arrived when we see the wag that starts at his tail and becomes a full-blown body wiggle...Rudy is greeting either a friend or anyone who has the potential to be a future playmate. He is initially cautious...assessing the situation to make sure all is OK. This makes perfect sense as he's been through time spent at a high-kill shelter waiting for his pending euthanasia date. When he was identified with a great temperament, Farfel's spoke up to bring Rudy to safety (and a new forever family) in Colorado. Once he senses that all present are his friends, Rudy is warm and friendly...and he always hopes every pat and kind word will turn into a friend. Both people and other dogs are drawn to Rudy for his kind attitude and playful ways. He is just starting to learn to play fetch (he had never had a toy prior to his rescue) and waits expectantly...with his eyes so bright and joyful - trying to understand the concept of play. Rudy's foster is also just starting his leash work...he's so happy if he senses that he's done a good job.

Farfel's Rescue has determined that Rudy needs a mellow home where he is an active and important member of the family. We feel that this would be more possible in an adult home (retirees would be perfect) where there's a more predictable environment. Rudy would be overjoyed to spend parts of the day with his family walking through the beauty of Colorado. Then at day's end, he's the ultimate snuggler and sleeps soundly through the night.

It is Rudy's love affair with life and all the hardships that he's suffered along the way that motivates Farfel's to put Rudy through Heartworm treatments..his precious life deserves to be saved! Rudy has tested HW+ and Farfel's (with the help of Dr G in Denver) has volunteered to save this very special dog's life. The heart worm treatment process involves several shots followed by a short period of quiet time for the dog. We have found this protocol to be very successful and the dogs go on to live long, happy lives.

We are seeking an adopter to lovingly care for Rudy as he becomes Heartworm negative. It's quite an easy rehab process as it only entails mellow time with soft words and belly rubs. Farfel's will pay the vet bills and provide premium food and treats for this special pup as he becomes healthily heartworm-free.

Rudy (like all dogs) would benefit from positive reinforcement obedience classes that included the whole family - he is a super-smart guy who truly wants to please. Great training will give Rudy the skills to be an excellent adult dog. These type of classes will also bring out the great qualities of this Maltese/Schnauzer as well as creating a tightly-knit bonding with all family members
.
Rudy is a non-shedding pup with a potentially beautiful coat with such distinctive colors running through it. It's very difficult to see the physical beauty of sweet Rudy due to the sad and ignored quality of his hair. Farfel's will be happy to cover the cost of a well-deserved bath and grooming for Rudy at our groomer's salon in Denver. Rudy will always require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his hair healthy, cottony-soft and matt-free.

Rudy will arrive on transport in Boulder on 8/21/15. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If interested in this sweet and devoted companion, please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
