My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Rita. I am an 8-year-old spayed female Terrier mix. I weigh about 37 pounds.

I am a very sweet, happy pup which is evident by the constant wag of my tail and ear to ear smile I wear. I'm a pretty outgoing gal and I'm always up for spending time with my human companions. If you pet me I'll return the favor by giving you big, wet doggy kisses. Hope you like those because it's my way of showing you how much I love you.

By looking at my photos, it's obvious I wasn't loved or cared for in my previous home. I never knew the comforts of a warm, soft bed. All I knew was the cold, dirty ground my owner insisted that I sleep on. Heck, I never knew what it was like to be clean and pest-free until now. I had so many ticks on my little body that the base of my tail and my abdomen were devoid of fur.

My previous owner treated my daughter and I as though we were the scum of the earth and threw us out with the trash. Didn't care what happened to us or how much pain and discomfort we were in.

One day, our "caregiver" decided that keeping dogs in the yard and never paying any attention to them was way too much trouble. Animal Control was called and they came to retrieve us from our home to take us to a high-kill shelter in the area. We were so low on the priority list that our owner couldn't even take us to the shelter and instead chose to have us picked up!!

When we arrived at the shelter I was severely dehydrated. In addition to the ticks they also noticed that I was missing many teeth and several of the teeth I still had were worn and the roots were exposed; probably due to eating rocks and sticks to survive.

The staff attempted to remove as many ticks as they could from us both. They were able to get all of my ticks off, but my poor daughter had to be sedated due to the sheer number of ticks that surrounded her eyes.

We spent about 2 weeks at the shelter before CageFree came to our rescue. I could not have been happier when I heard the news that we would never be someone's lawn ornament again. They have promised to find us a forever home where we will be indoor dogs and will receive all the love and attention we deserve.

My daughter and I are looking for a home together. We've been through a lot in our lives and it would be devastating for us to lose each other after all this time. We are definitely a bonded pair and cannot be separated.

If you are looking for two really amazing, sweet, loving dogs that will be your constant companions then we are the pair for you. My daughter can be very shy around new people, but I am slowly teaching her how to trust again.

If you think we would make a great addition to your family, please don't hesitate to contact CageFree to tell them you want to schedule a time to come and meet us. We are so excited to put our past behind us and find our forever home!
