My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We have two black velvet male chinchillas that are looking for new homes. They came to the rescue together, but do not need to go to the same home. They can be adopted out individually. They were born around 6/13/15, making them right around 2 months old! They are tiny tiny (they fit in one hand!), but they are doing well, and gaining weight and are ready to bond with their new owners!

Their color is called black velvet, which is a dark black on top, with a white belly.

These boys are very sweet. The one is a smidge more outgoing than the other, while the one is a bit more shy, but they both are very cute little buggers. They have tons of baby energy and just love to bounce around their cage. They’d love to have a nice large cage that they could explore every inch of, with hiding spots and all sorts of things. We’ve given them a ceramic pot as well as other things, and they love going in and out of those. They are very active and curious, and are not afraid to come up to the front of the cage to see what’s going on.

These boys do well with being handled and petted, though they would love to be exploring the world around them and hopping around. This will settle down as they get older, and of course, the more handling they get, the more likely they will be super sweet and tame. Well, they are already super sweet, but the more handling, the more they will be used to people, and be outgoing and friendly. They don’t bite.

These boys get along well with each other, so they very well could get along with another chinchilla, if you are wanting a companion for your chin, we can definitely try them together and find out. However, we cannot guarantee that any two chinchillas will get along.

Either of these chinchillas would make a great “first chinchilla” for someone who’s never had chinchillas before.

Each chinchilla will come with some food to start you out (2 pounds of Tradition pellets), a goodie bags of chews/treats, and a printed out version of our care packet. He will also come with a lifetime of help and support, should you ever need it. If more supplies are needed, we also sell a variety of chinchilla supplies, from cages to hidey houses to hammocks and everything in between.

Regardless of past chinchilla experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our chinchilla care packet, fill out our adoption application/chinchilla questionnaire, and provide proof of cage. If you are unwilling to do these things, please do not waste our time or yours. No chinchilla will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.

These chinchillas are located in Hammond, Indiana (zip code 46324). Sorry, but we do not ship.

These black velvet males will be $200 each to adopt.
