Lee's Story...
We have a standard grey male chinchilla up for adoption. His name is Lee. Lee is around 7 years old, born approx. June 2008.

Lee originally came to the rescue when his owner got a new job and was away from home several days a week. He felt he could not give Lee adequate care. Well, Lee is still here, and still waiting for the perfect home!

Lee is an active chinchilla. He loves running and hopping up and down the different levels in his cage. On occasion, he enjoys scratches and pets in his cage, though when he has had enough, he will push your hand away with his little paws (so cute!!). He does not bite. He is very curious and outgoing, and the second you go to put in food, or open the cage, he is right there to see what is going on. He does well with being handled and petted, though he would love if, while being held, he could also check out your shirt, shoulders, head… he’s just a very curious, very sweet boy. If given a wheel, he would probably love to run on it.

Lee’s owner brought a huge cage with him – a Critter Nation with custom wood shelves, house, the works! We would like this cage to go with him, and will discount the cage (from the price we would normally sell it for), and throw in some extra goodies, if you adopt him with his cage. His cage has all wood shelves, a hammock, a house, poo guards on all the shelves, a built in food bowl (not visible in the pic), and more! More info on that below.

As with all of our chinchillas/rescues, this chinchilla will come with 2 pounds of food to start you out (Tradition pellets), a baggies of chews, and a printed out version of our care packet. He will also come with a lifetime of help and support, should you ever need it. If more supplies are needed, we also offer a variety of other supplies for sale, including cages (new and used), chew toys, hidey houses, and much more.

Regardless of past chinchilla experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our chinchilla care packet and fill out our adoption application/chinchilla questionnaire. If you are unwilling to do this, please do not waste our time or yours. No chinchilla will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.

Lee is located in Hammond, Indiana (zip code 46324). Sorry, but we do not ship.

The adoption fee for Lee is $75.
OR Adopt Lee and take him and his Critter Nation home for a total of $244.50 (discount of $50 on cage). Plus, adopt him and his cage, and we will throw in a water bottle, a hammock of your choosing, and will sand all the shelves for you so the cage is super clean and ready to go home!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Lee, a Hammond Chinchilla was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Chinchilla for sale in Hammond, or seeking a Chinchilla from a breeder in Hammond.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Hammond already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Hammond breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Chinchilla breeders who help with Chinchilla rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Hammond paves the way for another one to be saved.
