My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix is a perfect combo for those with who are searching for an extremely smart, active and loyal companion. They're famous for their intelligence, great temperaments and loving and snuggly ways. They're also known to be trustworthy and very gentle with family members and other family pets.. They (like all dogs) require exercise and love being with their people...if a walk or hike is the order of the day - count them in! These breed mixes are known to hike joyfully through the Colorado mountains...and then crash on the couch snuggling close to their favorite humans, canines and felines (Bernadette loves all!).

Bernadette is an absolutely adorable and engaging puppy who was chosen for that coveted ticket to a new life in Colorado because of her extraordinary temperament. She's just 12 weeks old and 8.8 lbs (anticipated to be approximately 35 lbs when full-grown) and filled with nothing but love and great intentions. She will be that perfect companion for kids who love dogs and are yearning for that fuzzy best friend. Bernadette would also love adult company...perfect for a morning run or frisbee at the park.

Bernadette's Oklahoma foster mom sent us the following report on this sweet puppy:
Bernadette has to be the the most endearing pup ever! She greets me in the morning with the cutest smile. She very politely asks for breakfast. I also have to brag about how great she has become in her crate as long as she's been allowed to play puppy-hard and interact with her human and doggie friends during the day. She didn't make a peep last night! (FYI - she's better with an open wire kennel...a blanket over the top for security worked well) She was a bit hesitant when I put her in a closed travel crate although that could just be because it smells like my cat, Sophie). ;o)

Bernadette is a truly sweet Aussie Shep/Border Collie mix, also known as an AusBor (in other words, she's a stunning designer dog, teehee)! Bernie weighs just 8.8 lbs. and has a calm, gentle nature and always sweet (no matter what!) personality. She gets along famously with my senior 80 lb. Smooth Coat Collie and young, energetic 14 lb. Miniature Poodle and is very polite with my cats. In other words she's perfect and I'd never let her go if my husband didn't put his foot down at 5 pets!
Full disclosure - Bernadette is the greatest companion I've ever fostered! She perks up with love every time she sees me...and actually engages with pure joy with every human and dog she meets...always behaving herself like a champion.
What can I say...Bernie is a dream-puppy..no kidding! She is a wonderful companion, loves to be in your lap but never needy or whiny (unless very tired). She will steal your heart (and the hearts of your family) instantly. I only ask that she be loved completely. No dog ever deserved it more!

Our rescue assessment of sweet Bernadette is that her kind nature is just waiting to be enjoyed and appreciated...she makes playmates everywhere she goes. Bernie is very outgoing and social and that means everyone she meets can ultimately becomes a friend. You know when a loved one approaches, Bernie's tail starts the greeting and it wiggles up through her entire body ending into a smile. And if your lap is available, up Bernadette goes to cuddle and snuggle and let you know the level of her devotion. Bernadette is such a wonderful being...we think she represents the best qualities of her breed mix.

As Bernie has become comfortable in a foster home, she has become a fuzzy ball of good-will that loves to please - the happier her family is with her behavior, the more she shines with her accomplishments. We would like to see Bernie in a home that includes her in family time and activities... and takes that extra step to participate in puppy kindergarten followed by positive reinforcement obedience classes. These classes take a very smart dog like Bernadette and molds them into a great family member that can behave appropriately in any situation. Bernie would also be a wonderful companion for active retirees who have the time and desire to be best friends with a truly adorable young pup. Bernadette would enjoy another playful dog to run and tumble with...she's so entertaining as she puts her positive energy into some serious play.

Bernadette will arrive on transport in Denver on 8/28/15. If interested in this sweet, playful and very loyal companion, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
