Here's what the humans have to say about me:
There are few pups that can be more loving, devoted and just generally all-around sweet dogs than Heidi. At 25 lbs (such a perfect size for family fun and hiking the beautiful Colorado trails) and 1.5 - 2 years old (such a great age...old enough to be done with babyish behavior and very ready to be a devoted and bonded companion), Heidi is a great best friend for a family with kind children or retirees who are excited to provide a forever home to a very sweet-tempered companion. We got the almost-perfect results of Heidi's temperament testing reports...they confirmed that Heidi was every bit as wonderful as we originally anticipated.
Heidi's foster said it the best: I rescued Heidi initially because she stood out from the other dogs...she had this wisdom about her. I sat down among the dogs and almost immediately Heidi was loving me..not frenetically...but quiet, sweet and calm! She looked up at me with those amazing, expressive golden-brown eyes that told a thousand stories...I was completely in love! She was my rescue...I knew Farfel's had to find the MOST special home for this gentle spirit!
Heidi is just about everything a family could possibly want in any dog. Our first night together, she took her place on my bed...not intrusively but so respectfully. It was as if she was considering my comfort before her own. In the morning, there was no morning agitation or barking...Heidi is so low-key (especially compared to my 3 crazy dogs) that she just waited quietly (no barking or agitation...yay) and then followed me to the yard for a potty break...and then inside for breakfast. She was so wonderful with the other dogs (she definitely stood out as the mellowest and most sensible of the 4) and the activity of the 3 very gentle kids (11, 13 and 15 year old major dog-lovers) didn't seem to bother her at all. She happily gave them love and hugs...but then laid down with her chew toy..quite the independent girl.
Heidi has only had one accident in the house. I'm not certain if she was following the lead of the other dogs or if she just got it (maybe through smell) that outside was the only place for potty breaks. I take Heidi for a number of walks each day for socialization and exercise. When a long walk is in order - once again she's close to perfect... friendly and very easy to manage. I have some of my mellowest walks ever with just Heidi and me enjoying the flowers. There are no worries about aggression toward other dogs and I've only experienced Heidi with a wagging tail for everyone along the route. Finally I go to work in my home office...Heidi curls up next to my feet with a smile on her adorable face.
As far as Heidi's breed...the shelter was sure she's a Long-haired Dachshund/Spaniel mix. I can see both breeds in Heidi's make-up. Her temperament definitely represents the best of these breeds. She has a gorgeous coat (with incredible markings) that's in line with the long-haired Doxy as well as Spaniel. Heidi will require periodic baths/brushing and great nutrition to keep her coat healthy, shining and cottony-soft.
Heidi hasn't been particularly vocal in my house...but than again, someone is always around as well as other dogs to play with. She definitely doesn't have the high-energy needs of my terriers or Border Collie. Who knows...she's pure love and an absolute pleasure to have in my home! Since Heidi has a full, teddy-bear type coat, she will require periodic baths/brushing to keep her hair healthy and cotton-soft.
Farfel's has requested that Heidi be spayed prior to her transport to Colorado. If this doesn't occur, Farfel's is happy to cover the costs of fixing and microchipping Heidi if our Denver vet is used. Heidi has been fully vetted/temperament tested and given her shots to fulfill our commitment to adopting out healthy and well-adjusted dogs.
Heidi will be arriving on transport in Denver on 8/28/15. If interested in this fun-loving, sweet and very devoted companion, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
