My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lovely Ginger has an imposing regal stance and a graceful elegance that mask a sad soul. Just eleven months old, she feels the weight of the world on her sturdy shoulders. Ginger was surrendered by owners who were dumbfounded by the size to which their Bullmastiff/Boerboel puppy grew. I guess they thought their breeder sold them a Chihuahua. Here is another example of folks who would have fared better with a stuffed Plush Pet than a living dog.

Ginger has the movie star good looks that will make bully lovers weak in the knees. She is a petite 68 pounds, well below the powerful Bullmastiff breed standard. While she is full grown, Ginger will fill out a bit as she reaches her ideal weight. She has a stunning short, caramel brown, coat, with a black muzzle, and can be a bit of a wetmouth when excited. Her doe-like eyes convey amazing depth and sensitivity.

Ginger is a timid girl, wary of strangers, and yet she longs to make that loving connection to a special person. Once she warms and trusts, Ginger exudes grateful affection. She seems slightly more comfortable with women, and yet, the gentle, firm male touch will win her heart and build her confidence. Ginger has bonded beautifully with her trainer, Ricky, who has helped her to blossom while in foster care.

Ginger is a medium energy dog, who prefers the leisurely stroll to the fast paced hike. She could easily join the moderately active home or apartment of a single or couple, experienced with powerful breeds. Dog owners who choose Bullies and other large, powerful breeds have a heightened responsibility to teach their precious charges the rules of Canine Good Citizenship. Ginger is a gentle girl, and could live peacefully with other gentle well trained dogs, but she is not the best choice for homes with cats and kids.

Ginger has progressed nicely with basic obedience and CGC training. She has responded well to gentle leadership techniques, and to praise and treat based positive reinforcement techniques. Ginger is an excellent, motivated student, who could go all the way to earn her CGC certificate. Ongoing obedience work is one of the best ways to build the confidence of a shy dog, and this work had proven successful with Ginger.

Ginger has great housemanners, and is housetrained and crate trained. Adopters should be prepared to troubleshoot the occasional accident that might occur during her transition to a new routine. Ginger is in excellent health and has been recently spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies and DA2PP (distemper, adrenovirus, parvo and parainfluenza). She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed.
