My name is Buttercup but my foster mom calls me Butterball or "Butters" for short. I was rescued with my 2 sisters by PAWS-OK in late May. We didn't have our mom with us so we needed someone to take care of us and our foster mom was really great. I am the shyest kitty in my litter some would say I am a "scaredy cat", and prefer to lay on my cat tower and survey things. My foster home has some other cats and some big dogs that I am still afraid of and I have been living with them for months now. I have been known to be a "talker" and am not shy about giving you my opinion on things. I wear a silky black coat all the time so if you like black cats I might be the perfect one for you. My ideal home would be very quiet with a big tall cat post to lay on, patient people who will give me the space and time to get comfortable and would not have any children. If you are looking for a cat that lays on your face at night, greets all your friends at the door and that you have to step over all the time, then I am NOT the cat for you. But if you are looking for a cat that will make you feel very special, reward you with a tight one-on-one bond and simply keep you company and listen to your stories, then I might just be the cat for you! If you are interested in learning more about me, contact my foster mom, Ashley at (405) 873-7034 or contact PAWS about getting an adoption application (below).

All PAWS-OK cats and kittens have been fostered in a home environment and are litter box trained, up-to-date on their vaccinations, spayed or neutered and have been tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV prior to being made available for adoption. The adoption fee is $70 (cash only).

Some of our cats are available for adoption at the PetSmart on NW Expressway and Rockwell in OKC. Please check our website at and go to the "Adopt" tab to see a list of those currently available in the PetSmart Adoption Center.

The first step in adoption is to complete an Adoption Request form which we use to help us match you with a cat or kitten that best meets your desires, experience and home environment. You can request one at: or pick one up at PetSmart. Thanks for adopting a rescued cat - they make the best pets!

About Pet Adoption and Welfare Services of Oklahoma

About Our Rescue Group...

The Pet Adoption and Welfare Services of Oklahoma (PAWS-OK) is a non-profit pet rescue founded in 2008 and focused on finding homeless and abandoned cats new loving homes. Most of our cats are surrendered to us by people who can no longer care for their pets or who find themselves the caretaker of a neighborhood cat and / or kittens.

PAWS cats are suitable as house cats / family members only. Many of our adult cats have been family pets all their lives and the kittens we have are fostered in family homes and socialized as house pets. Most are dog friendly and wouldn't recognize a potential outside threat if it announced itself. All our cats are spayed or neutered, tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV, fully vaccinated, fostered in a home setting and checked by a veterinarian before adoption.

We are a small, all volunteer group whose goal is to match responsible owners with the right pet. When our cats don't fit an adopters specific needs we can provide them with information on appropriate pets available from other local rescues/organizations or individuals. We are also happy to advise anyone who is looking for a specific type of pet (breed of dog or possibly declawed cat) or looking to re-home their own pet or a stray that they have found.

We also seek to educate the public on the current Oklahoma animal welfare laws and urge everyone to communicate with their elected officials to encourage their support for animal friendly legislation.

And of course, we support all the spay and neuter efforts of our counterparts and other organizations. The greatest impact to our city's pet overpopulation issue and the resulting alarmingly high rate of euthanasia at our local shelters will only be reduced through spay and neuter programs. If you are looking for a low cost option for spaying or neutering your pet, please click on "Links" at for information on low cost services in your area.

PAWS-OK is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) designated organization and does not receive any public funding. Contributions are deductible under section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code. Every dollar raised by PAWS through adoption fees, donations and fundraising events is used to support our programs.

Come Meet Our Pets...

PAWS cats are all fostered in family homes where they are socialized, stimulated and cared for by our loving volunteers. About a dozen of our cats are available to meet in our Adoption Center inside the PetSmart on NW Expressway and Rockwell during normal business hours (Mon-Sat 9 AM - 8 PM, Sun 10 AM - 5 PM). Others are still available to meet, by appointment, to applicants with an approved Adoption Request. We also participate in Meet & Greets, informational booths and other rescue events in the Oklahoma City area. For a complete schedule please click on "Events" at

Our Adoption Process...

Adopting a new pet for your home is a big decision and should not be entered into without proper consideration of your lifestyle and the needs of the pet. We are open to all lifestyles and believe responsible pet owners are a very diverse group of people.

If you are interested in adopting from PAWS, the first step is to complete an Adoption Request Form. This information helps our Adoption Counselors understand the needs and desires of the adopter in an effort to make the best possible match of new family to new feline. You can request a form via e-mail, download one from our website or pick one up in our Adoption Center at PetSmart (8357 N Rockwell, OKC 73132)

All our adopters to sign a PAWS-OK Adoption contract that covers a variety of issues related to the adoption, maintenance and return of the cat if needed. We understand that some adopters have very specific needs that often we can't fill. For example, some adopters desire their cats to be declawed or to "mouse" or live outside. We seldom have these type of cats in our rescue but we are happy to reach out to others on behalf of the potential adopter, or direct them to other sources in an effort to find them a suitable feline companion.

We will, when appropriate, make contact with applicant's landlords and veterinarians before approving an adoption. It is very important to us that all pets in the household are current on all their vaccinations including rabies (state law), spayed or neutered and have a good veterinarian care history. Landlord Pet Deposits (per animal) are required at the vast majority of apartment complexes in the metro area. We may contact an applicants landlord to make sure the adoption of a new cat is within the apartment guidelines and that the pet deposit has been paid prior to adoption.

Adoption fees are $70 but can vary depending on the age, health and special needs of the cat.

PAWS will attempt to make a follow-up contact with all adopters a few weeks post adoption to make sure that the new cat is settling in and that the adopter is happy with their new family member. If at any time the adopter can no longer care for the cat they adopt from PAWS, we will take it back into our adoption program. Simply contact us. Returns can normally be arranged within days of the initial call.
