My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello! My name is Billy. I am a 3-year-old neutered male Border Collie mix. I weigh about 42 pounds.

You'd probably be surprised to hear that I once belonged to a homeless man. My owner had a bunch of other dogs and some of them were not very nice to me. I'd go as far as to say they were bullies! I would get picked on a lot because I was more submissive than they were.

One day, I found myself at a local high-kill shelter with several of the other dogs I had been living on the streets with. The staff housed us three to a run and unfortunately, I got stuck with two of the bullies. While at the shelter, one of my kennel mates attacked me. The shelter staff jumped in to rescue me, but not before I sustained some wounds. Based on the number of scabs I have, though, it appears as though it wasn't an isolated incident. I had probably been attacked multiple times while living on the streets.

I spent two weeks at the shelter longing for a home of my own. Then one day, I got the best news ever! I was leaving to go stay at CageFree. My friends promised that I would never be bullied again and that they will find the perfect forever home for me. I could not have been happier!

When I got to CageFree my rescue friends noticed that I had a tick on the top of my head. While removing it, they noticed that I had more than just one. Sixteen to be exact! I probably had more at the time, but I have a lot of long hair and they were difficult to find. Not to worry, though. I've since been treated with a flea and tick topical. I'm feeling so much better now that I'm no longer a buffet for insects.

Now that you've heard about my past, let me talk a little about my personality. I think it's pretty apparent that I've not had the easiest life, and I'll be honest, it does show. I'm a really sweet dog, but when you meet me, you'll be able to see the emotional scars. I don't wag my tail or smile much, but I've got my paws crossed that you won't hold that against me. My friends are working really hard to help me find my true personality. They spend a lot of time with me and give me a ton of support. They even lie on the ground in my run with me!

Slowly, but surely, their efforts are making a difference. When I first got here, going on a potty walk was out of the question. They would carry me to the grass and I would completely shut down. Now, I'm not afraid to take a short walk to do my business! I have a long road ahead of me, but everybody says that the day will come when I'll be able to put all this behind me and begin to look forward to the bright future I've been promised.

If there was ever a dog that needed your love and support, it's definitely me! I'm looking for a family that will be patient with me and understand that just because I don't bounce around and ask for pets like other dogs, doesn't mean I don't love you - it just means I'm still learning how to express myself. If you think that I'm the dog for you, please don't hesitate to contact CageFree and tell them you want to meet me. I can't wait for my new beginning!
