Here's what the humans have to say about me:

HANNAH - Foster Home Urgently Needed: 6/14/08

Portland, ME

Hannah is a lovely Pitbull/Husky (?) Mix who has endured a horrible start to life and come through with a sunny disposition. Look at her big brown eyes ... how can you not fall in love?

Estimated to be between 3-4 years old, Hannah was seized as part of a neglect case. She was found almost starved, living in a trailer with multiple other animals, some found alive, some found dead.

Unable to be released for adoption until the court case was settled, Hannah has been in the custody of a local shelter for 12 months. The court case was resolved and Hannah is now free to find her forever home.

We would love to find Hannah a foster home in the Greater Portland area as soon as possible, as this girl deserves to get out of her cage, relax and enjoy some home living. She started to show signs of kennel stress - which can happen after a YEAR of shelter living. If she does not find a foster home ASAP, the shelter may opt to end her life humanely. We think that she deserves a chance - don't you?

Hannah is just a delightful, sweet girl who longs for affection. If someone would just give her a chance at love, the reward would be undying devotion. She gets so happy when someone comes to visit her that she wags her whole body and smiles. She is highly motivated by food and will sit if she even thinks there might be a treat lying around.

Hannah has gained some weight (perhaps a bit too much) while at the shelter and weighs approximately 50 lbs. Monitored diet and treats are in order going forward. She will check your pockets for treats:)

Hannah loves to walk in the woods.

Hannah is very intelligent and motivated to please - which makes her an excellent candidate for obedience and perhaps agility or flyball training.

Hannah enjoys the company of male dogs and has shared her living space with a male dog successfully. Her favorite playmate at the shelter is Buddy. The two romp in the yard together during supervised playtime.

The shelter staff feels that Hannah show a little too much interest in cats and small animals to be placed with them.

Hannah knows her name. She knows how to sit on command. She will come when called, as long as there are no squirrels or critters to investigate.

Hannah spent some time in a shelter staff member's home. She was reported to be well behaved in the home when left alone, as long as food items and trash was secured.

Hannah is a girl who needs a good amount of exercise. She would love someone to take her for long walks, hikes or runs.

An ideal foster home for her would be one with an experienced dog person, who will take the time to re-introduce Hannah into the "real" world at a slow pace. After so much time in confinement, Hannah will need some time to adjust to life outside of a cage.

Hannah is not a candidate to be off-leash. She requires to be walked on leash and/or exercised in a securely fenced in yard.

Due to her unknown past, Hannah will not be placed in a home where children reside or visit.

PLEASE help us to give Hannah a better life by providing her with a safe and loving foster home.
