Maddie's story...
On a 90 degree day last week Palatine police officers drove by an Advance Auto Parts and saw the back door of a van open, and dogs in crates from floor to ceiling could be seen from the street.
There were 11 English and French bulldogs, adults and puppies, all suffering from a lack of air — and they all needed immediate medical attention.
Three of the dogs were in such bad shape they were rushed in police cars to a local animal hospital. Two of them died from heat stroke, their body temperatures measuring 107 degrees.
The woman who owned the dogs was charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals and 11 counts of misdemeanor cruelty to animals.
The dogs were treated for dehydration and ear and skin infections.
After the owner forfeited ownership of all the dogs, the vet staff and police officers adopted all the frenchies and bullies, leaving this cutie for CEBR to find her a loving home.
