Harvey's Story...
Introducing Harvey.  We have seen a lot of puppies at local shelters, and each of them have their own unique way of handling being in the sheltering environment.   Some puppies run straight to the kennel door, tails wagging, tounges hanging out, as if they have no idea of where they are.  Then there are dogs that cower in the background.  They are terrified and you can feel their shut down desire to just disappear as they fly their little flag that says "please walk on by, and pay me no attention. ".

And then, there are dogs like Harvey.   He was the perfect, and appropriate behavior we like to see in a dog in a scary environment. He sat in the back of his kennel, happy that we were paying him attention, but painfully aware that his loud and scary surroundings were not where he wanted to be. We love to see a dog with some common sense like Harvey had.  Sensitive but not shut down....perceptive puppy.

We were thrilled to see that he was available for adoption, so we took his kennel card to the front desk where we were told that he had an owner, and she was going to come get him the next day.   As sad as we were to not get this boy, we were happy that he was going to be reclaimed by an owner, which freed us up to help other dogs at the shelter.

The next day we came in to check on Harvey to make sure that his owner claimed him, and were sad to see him still sitting there unsure in his kennel.  It was at that moment that we decided that whoever his owner was, didn't deserve to get him back.   If you are going to lose a puppy and then not immediately attempt to reclaim, then you don't deserve our sweet Harvey.  My daughter scooped him up and he rested his head on her shoulder. It was love at first sight.   He loves to be held and cuddled, it is absolutely where he is is happiest… In your arms.

Harvey is currently in a foster home with other dogs, and is kid friendly. We think that this sweet, tender hearted boy would make the perfect addition to any family. Harvey's adoption fee is $500 and will include his microchip, neuter surgery, vaccinations (including rabies, 7 in 1, and Bordetella), deworming, health certificate, and transportation Memphis to your area. Please email us at wilsonanimalrescue@yahoo.com for an adoption application for this sweet boy.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Harvey, a Hagerstown German Shepherd Dog/Labrador Retriever puppy was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a German Shepherd Dog/Labrador Retriever for sale in Hagerstown, or seeking a German Shepherd Dog/Labrador Retriever puppy from a breeder in Hagerstown.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Hagerstown already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Hagerstown breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even German Shepherd Dog/Labrador Retriever breeders who help with German Shepherd Dog/Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Hagerstown paves the way for another one to be saved.
