My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

9/8/15 Foster Update: Buddy and Pebbles are settled in at their foster him and we are learning how happy each is. They are walking nicely with a Gentle Leader, love treats and antlers to chew, and enjoy visits from guest dogs. They love playing outside in the fenced yard. Our foster has observed that each loves dogs, and that they do not need to live together as a bonded pair. Buddy and Pebbles can go to separate homes as long as there is another dog in their adoptive home. Here is a video
of Buddy and Pebbles with a visiting Bernese Mountain dog - notice how similar in appearance Pebbles is!
If you are interested in affectionate Buddy or sweet Pebbles, either together or separately, please contact us via the information at the end of their story, to learn more about them. Each is a treasure and so pretty after their recent grooming!

Buddy & Pebble's Story: Buddy, 9 years old, is a classic, Velcro Golden. He gives the Golden paw, loves being with his people, likes other dogs and children, and is a gentle, affectionate boy. He follows his person from room to room and loves sitting by you. Pebbles, 7 years old, is also affectionate and happy. She is a beautiful tricolor mix with white socks on her front paws! She seems to prance in happiness, but is a bit more reserved than her brother.

In their early lives Buddy and Pebbles were let out to run in a fenced yard for exercise. When their parents divorced several years ago, they moved to a home without fencing and were let out for potty breaks only. Consequently, they need a refresher course with their leash walks, especially when seeing dogs or people they would love to meet. Both dogs grew up with children, take treats gently, and know the basic commands sit, stay and down. They ride well in a car and stay alone at home together for several hours with no problems. Buddy is the big brother who barks when strangers come to the door, and both jump up to greet people when excited about a visitor. Their Foster Mom is working on their manners and had this nice report on their very first day with her: They slept well and are settling in. Buddy is definitely a Velcro dog - if you're not petting him, he will hit your hand with his nose and say "more, more, more!" I'm working on making them sit before they go outside and when they come back in to maintain control. They both sit very pretty for a treat! Pebbles is a little more reserved but also incredibly sweet and affectionate. They are loving drinks and potty time outside (unlimited ). Pebbles rolled in my mint! They are not extremely affectionate towards each other but are use to being together.

Buddy has a mild seizure disorder which is easily controlled with daily inexpensive medicine. He has not had a seizure since 2011 when his medicine ran out following a hurricane that disrupted daily life for a while. He has periodically been treated for hot spots, typical of many Goldens. Both Buddy and Pebbles have been well cared for medically and are up to date on all their vaccinations, regular vet visits, and spayed/neutered.

We cannot say enough about how delightful this pair is, and about how they deserve a chance to stay together to enjoy their happy retirement years. Be sure to watch them in action in their video! They are in CT and they are ready to meet you.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

SGRR Adoption Fees (subject to change)**
Puppies under 6 months $650
Young dogs 6 months - 6 years $550
Young dogs - Special Needs $450
Senior dogs 7 - 9 years $450
Seniors dogs 10 years and older $350
Senior dogs - Special Needs $300
Young Bonded Pairs $850
Senior Bonded Pairs $750

**Please note: The fees listed represent a slight increase and are effective for applications received after June 1 2014. We regret the need to increase the fees for our dogs, but found it necessary due to the increased costs we are faced with for each dog's care and placement.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
