My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The Spaniel mixes are always a favorite among the many groups of mixed breed dogs. We all seem to love their fun, outgoing and snuggly nature. Brinklee appears to be a perfect combo within the Spaniel breeds. Her truly beautiful coat (charcoal black, honey brown and purest of white) lights up her adorable face. Her dark eyes are so expressive that you understand the pain she's been through while seeing her optimism and love of life. Brinklee is obviously very special...she was found wandering sadly through a Houston neighborhood and a wonderful TX foster couldn't let her go..she brought her into her home to heal and to ready her for a forever home. At just about 12 - 24 months old and 25 lbs (the perfect size for hiking and playing in the Colorado mountains), Brinklee shines with an engaging and sweet disposition. She is an active girl whose tail never stops wagging...yet calms down easily (particularly after a walk or hike) and can just hang out on the couch with the best of them. Brinklee was described by the shelter as: Sweet, Somewhat Shy, Calm yet very Playful and Active. She was very kind with shelter personnel as well as other dogs. Brinklee enjoys gentle, respectful, dog-crazy kids and would be an active participant in outdoor games in the yard or a walk to the park. She also enjoys the company of other dogs and would always enjoy a game or a shared walk.

Somewhere along the line, we think that Brinklee was given love and respect..probably because she's so capable of returning warmth and kindness. Brinklee is great to take along anywhere there are groups of dog-loving people. She can be a bit shy initially but always warms up with sweetness and warm hugs. We feel that Brinklee would do well in any home that offered her love, time (long hours left alone at home wouldn't be in the best interest of this social and sensitive girl), appropriate exercise/ mental stimulation and positive reinforcement group training classes to make her the best dog she can possibly be. Brinklee has an amazing coat that will grow more beautiful and soft as cotton with great nutrition (salmon oil would be a great supplement) and periodic grooming. This regimen will keep her hair healthy and matt-free. Brinklee's foster mom sent us this report on sweet Brinklee -- This incredibly beautiful (with a capital B) Spaniel is sweet and wonderful. She can be quite playful..she's been passing the time playing chase and happily wrestling with my sister's dog who is gentle yet fun. She's very good with people... she likes to be next to me after we take our morning walk.. and just chill. Brinklee loves her hikes and walks, but still needs a bit more practice to walk calmly without pulling on the leash or wanting to play with other dogs that are being walked.

Brinklee appears to have the idea about house-training but I would always anticipate some teaching on this each time a dog is rehomed. It's helpful if there's another dog in the home to show the way. We have 2 small to medium size dogs of our own that have hated all our previous fosters...but Brinklee is so agreeable that even our grumpy dogs are OK with her being with us. --My dear, sweet Brinklee...you're a great and brave girl and I wish you a place in the best home ever!--

Brinklee is being fostered in the Denver area. If interested in this very sweet, loving and active best friend, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
