Bear Newman's Story...
Adopted Dec 1, 2013 - Returned to rescue (no fault of his own) February 2015

Bear is a handsome, long-coated young adult, ~ 7 years old. He likes attention and wants to tell you so.... he even likes being brushed. He plays with a ball and will play fetch with just a little coaxing. He also plays with other dogs, though he really enjoys being inside.

Bear does have one dislike... men. Apparently he was mistreated by one early on and still doesn't trust them, so he would be best in a home where male visitors are infrequent.

Bear was rescued from an Alabama shelter after his owner moved away, abandoning him without regard for his care. He was uncertain of people's intentions at first but has developed a level of trust while in foster care. Bear had to be treated for heart-worms, as so many rescues do but is now completely healthy and available to the right home.

This dog is crate trained, spayed or neutered, up to date on shots and HW negative. Adoption application, home visit, and $300 adoption fee are required.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Bear Newman, a Pike Road German Shepherd Dog dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a German Shepherd Dog for sale in Pike Road, or seeking a German Shepherd Dog dog from a breeder in Pike Road.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Pike Road already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Pike Road breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even German Shepherd Dog breeders who help with German Shepherd Dog rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Pike Road paves the way for another one to be saved.
