My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kipper is a very calm and energetic male Bichon/Lhasa mix who is eager to find a “forever” home. He is between 6 and 8 years old and loves everyone he’s met…people and dogs. Kipper was surrendered by his owners to a very high-kill shelter because they “couldn’t afford to keep him.” His coat was very matted and he had fleas and what looked like flea allergy, so he had lost much of the coat on his back and was constantly scratching. He was in the quarantine room, scheduled for euthanasia when he was rescued by Small Paws®. Once he was de-flead and put on a regimen of one Benadryl morning and night, his coat began to grow in, and the itching stopped.

Kipper stayed in a grooming/boarding facility for about a month after rescue, and the people there loved this little guy. He is now with other dogs in his foster home, and he gets along with all of them and loves to explore the back yard and play chase with his foster siblings. He is something of a barker when he is with the group, mostly communicating with the dogs on the other side of the fence. He does “alert” when he hears strange noises or thinks someone is coming to the door, but he usually listens to corrections and quiets down when told everything is o.k.

He is fine with being crated, and sleeps in a crate at night, (but would be happy to stay in the human’s bed if invited). He is very well house trained, but will use puppy pads if the weather is inclement. He likes squeaky toys, looking out the windows, taking walks on his leash, and meeting new friends. He seems to do fine with respectful children, at least 10 years old, and is happy just sitting with you and getting an occasional pat or scratch behind the ears. Kipper is a very easy dog to have around, and is much more people-oriented than dog oriented, so he would be fine with someone as an only dog. He does like to stay with you, so he needs an owner who is home a lot or can keep him with you. He is the epitome of “a good dog”, and certainly deserves a wonderful home of his own. Kipper weighs about 20 pounds.
He will need another dog in the home or someone that is home most of the time. Children in the home need to be at least 10 years old. Kipper is located in MS
