Elvira (Ellie)'s Story...
Elvira (her nickname is Ellie) is a beautiful Tree Walker Coon hound that was a stray running the streets. She is just a year old. She loves attention. Does know a few commands. Her coat feels like velvet. As a typical hound she loves to run, put her nose to the ground, and smell the air. Ellie is very tall and energetic. Perhaps there is an active runner out there who would like a four-legged companion to accompany them? Ellie just may fit that bill. She needs an active family as she is great with kids. She would do well with a companion dog or an active owner. She does not like to be alone. She is crate trained. She knows some commands. Learns fast. Come meet Ellie. She will definitely “talk” to you for attention. Please fill out an application. All references will be checked including the vet. A pre-home visit is required for all dog adoptions.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Elvira (Ellie), a Dunkirk Coonhound dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Coonhound for sale in Dunkirk, or seeking a Coonhound dog from a breeder in Dunkirk.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Dunkirk already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Dunkirk breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Coonhound breeders who help with Coonhound rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Dunkirk paves the way for another one to be saved.
