My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Iris is the Perfect Dog!

We all seek the "perfect companion" animal...perfect for us. When we do make that connection, we have a wonderful new family member to share our lives with.

At Cochise Canine Rescue we most often take in the "less-than-perfect" dogs into our program...elderly, chronically ill, special needs: deaf, blind, missing a limb.

But occasionally we find a real gem. A perfect dog....

Recently we accepted a beautiful little girl we have named Iris. She was depressed at the pound, sitting hunched over and miserable, looking older than her years, looking older due to her circumstances...and due to the white freckles sprinkled across her nose, and the white hair woven into her muzzle. We believe her to be approximately four or five years of age: a still-young adult with the majority of her life ahead of her.

Iris

When we acquired Charlie (an elderly blind dog), he cried as he was terribly lonely and afraid. So we had decided to find a quiet friend for Charlie...a female older dog to hang out with while he became accustomed to life at CCR. Charlie went with me, back to the pound for a meet-and-greet. After meeting several lovely ladies, he selected Iris to be his new friend.

When Iris arrived she immediately became terribly ill with a devastating case of Kennel Cough. We treated her with antibiotics for two weeks, providing Charlie with a prophylactic dose as well so that he did not get ill. We were delighted that Charlie no longer cried and seemed content to have a "buddy" and Iris was delighted to be away from the stress of the pound.

As Iris started feeling better physically, and began to feel safe emotionally, her rediscovered playfulness came out. Soon she no longer looked nor acted like an older dog.

When Charlie recovered from his needed surgery and became comfortable with life here, their horizons expanded. Soon Iris began to hang out with the younger adults....the dogs from a year to three years of age. She was reborn.

In brief: Iris is fabulous! She gets along beautifully with people and with animals of all sizes. She uses the doggy door, sits for treats, and puts her arms around you, looking into your eyes lovingly. This is one wonderful girl...who deserves nothing but the most wonderful home and life we can find for her.

Iris is up to date with her shots, micro chipped and will be going in to be spayed soon. Her perfect home with have either a stay-at-home person or another dog to play with as she loves to play! Iris is the perfect, waking, hiking, running, jogging buddy.....

So now that we have the "perfect dog" we need to find the "perfect people" for this wonderful girl...Could that be you?
