My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

NOTE: All our Cupids are fostered in private homes. An approved application MUST be on file before proceeding with meet-and-greet. The online application can be found at http://www.caninecupids.org/adopt-.html.

Meet Gertrude!
Gertie is a 5 year old Staffordshire terrier mix, and she is spayed potty trained. She is a sweet, sweet little love bug. She is very calm and listens well. She walks great on a leash. She loves her walks!! She likes to be around someone, anyone that will rub her belly. Her favorite thing to do is lay on the couch in the sun. She weighs 53 pounds but is quite small in stature.

Gertie does have some visual impairment. Until she sees the ophthalmologist it is unclear as to what she can and can't see. Because of her visual impairment she can be skittish at times. It is important for her to have appropriate introductions so she doesn't get scared, with both humans and resident pets. She would do best in a house with another dog that will follow her lead and give her space when she needs it. She does well with her foster brother because he lets her come to him. Like most women she likes to be the boss and likes to decide if she will play or not! There's no difference in her human relationships. She likes good introductions and an understanding of her need for space. Because of this, she would be best in a home with older children.

Gertie is an incredibly sweet and loving little dog. She has so much to give. If you can give her some patience and attention she will give you so much in return.

Gertrude’s adoption fee is $150 and she is being fostered in southeastern Wisconsin. Because all our Cupids are fostered in private homes, an approved application MUST be on file before proceeding with a meet-and-greet. The online application can be found at http://www.caninecupids.org/adopt-.html.

If you are interested in adopting, here are the next steps for you to take:

1. Complete & submit an application at http://www.caninecupids.org/adopt-.html

2. You will be notified by our Adoptions Team when your application is processed and approved (usually within 48 hrs)

3. Once approved, your application is sent to the foster family, who will then be able to provide you all the information imaginable on the dog as well as set up a meet and greet.

Our Thoughts on Visual Breed Identification
Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable. For most of our adoptable Cupids we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We think it’s most important is to get to know each dog as an individual! We then do our best to describe each of our adoptable Cupids based on their personalities in order to determine whether they’ll make good companions based on prospective adopters’ lifestyles. Dog behavior is not exclusive to breed — it’s a complex mix of nature and nurture.
