My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The Cavalier Spaniel/Long Haired Dachshund mixes are always a favorite among the many groups of mixed breed dogs. We all seem to love their fun, outgoing and snuggly nature. India appears to be a perfect combo within these breeds. Her truly beautiful coat (charcoal black, honey brown and purest of white) lights up her adorable face. Her stunning turquoise and brown eyes are so expressive that you understand the pain she's been through while seeing her optimism and love of life.

India is obviously very special...she was found wandering sadly through a Houston neighborhood and a wonderful Texas foster couldn't let her go..she brought her into her home to heal and to ready her for a forever home. At just about 18 - 24 months old and 17 lbs (the perfect size for hiking and playing in the Colorado mountains), India shines with an engaging and sweet disposition. She is an active girl whose tail never stops wagging...yet she also calms down easily and can just hang out on the couch with the best of them. India was described by the shelter as Sweet, Somewhat Shy and Calm. She was very kind at the shelter with personnel as well as other dogs.

India enjoys gentle, respectful, dog-crazy kids and would be an active participant in outdoor games in the yard or a walk to the park. She also enjoys the company of other dogs and would always enjoy playing or a shared walk. Somewhere along the line, we think that India was given love and respect..probably because she's so capable of returning warmth and kindness. India is great to take along anywhere there are groups of dog-loving people. She can be a bit shy initially but always warms up with sweetness, warm hugs and treats are wonderful!

We feel that India would do well in any home that offered her love, time (long hours left alone at home wouldn't be in the best interest of this social and sensitive girl), appropriate exercise/ mental stimulation and positive reinforcement group training classes to make her the best dog she can possibly be.

India has an amazing coat that will grow more beautiful and as soft as cotton with great nutrition (salmon oil would be a great supplement) and periodic grooming. This regimen will keep her hair healthy and matt-free.

India's foster mom sent us this report on sweet India -- This incredibly beautiful (with a capital B) Spaniel is sweet and wonderful. Any family will fall head over heels in love with India - I did the minute I met her. She wags her little tail like a helicopter every time she sees me and actually loves the crate. We take her on walks and she's very comfortable on the leash (very unusual for a rescue pup). India loves lying next to me and cuddling. She's playful and extremely fun and positive. I haven't heard her bark or whine since she arrived at my house..so wonderful! India did get spayed just prior to my picking her up so she was a little groggy. But this morning she had some energy...not over the top but just the perfect amount. I'm attaching a photo that shows off her one turquoise-blue eye..it's so striking and beautiful. I can't even describe how sweet and loving this cutie-pie is. I literally became attached the minute I met her.
I haven't seen India around kids but she's so mellow and loving that I can't imagine gentle and respectful children would be a problem. India is so great with people... she loves to be next to me and just chill. What can I say...she's an almost-perfect best friend and forever companion! Wherever she goes, India will be one of the best dogs of all time!

India appears to be completely house-trained but we would always anticipate some teaching on this each time a dog is rehomed. It's always helpful if there's another dog in the home or a very proactive guardian to show the way.

India will arrive on transport in Boulder on Friday 9/11/15. If interested in this very sweet, gentle and fun-loving best friend, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
