My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Mercer! He's a 4 year old Great Pyrenees/Shepherd mix that was recently adopted and returned. Let it be known that Mercer is hearing impaired. He was returned because the father in the family said he would not come into the house when called. He also said Mercer snapped at him once because he was startled by the father while sleeping. The mother and daughter in the family adored Mercer. They said he was the perfect pooch that was very friendly, house trained and had manners. You can travel far and wide for a good dog and you won't find any better than Mercer. It may be best if he were in a home with older children since he is hearing impaired and can get startled by quick movements. Please consider Mercer if you're in the market for a new furry friend.

On October 01, 2015, Mercer was selected to be one of Friendship's Prison Dogs. He is currently undergoing training at the Grafton Correctional Institution. Prison Dogs are trained in obedience, basic commands, manners and proper leash walking. He will spend approximately 12 weeks at the prison.

If you are interested in adopting this prison dog, adoption applications are now being accepted. This dog will be returning to Friendship probably sometime in late December. All dogs return on an individual basis. You can find an app at friendshipapl.org under ADOPT-FIND A FRIEND. Hand deliver the app to Friendship or call if you live a distance away to see if you can fax one in. Please DO NOT email the app.

All dogs receive one or more vaccinations, a basic veterinary examination, are wormed, heartworm tested and spayed or neutered. Dogs 3 months and older are micro-chipped.
