My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

FOSTER LOCATION: Caldwell, ID

Kimberly came to Fuzzy Pawz Rescue a bald, scaly, itchy mess with sores all over her body. Lucky for her and for Fuzzy Pawz a wonderful local vet stepped forward and offered help. With the diligent care by the folks over at Canyon Small Animal Hospital Kimberly has come a long way and is now looking to find a very special forever home. She is about 2 years old and appears to be a purebred Boxer.
If there was ever a dog who adored people it is Kimberly! Even during the worst of her skin issues she was more than happy to be touched, loved on and even accepted baths with no issues. She has a wag and a smile for everyone she meets. She is eager to please and knows how to sit, shake and takes treats gently.

Now for the hard part; Kimberly suffers from a rare type of Demodex Mange and an immunodeficiency, which means she will need her adoptive families (and her vets) assistance in helping to keep her mange under control. While her Demodex is not at all a zoonotic concern for people or other pets; she does have a problem with secondary skin infections due to her compromised immune system. These may occasionally erupt; if she has a flare-up she will need to be handled with reasonable care, for people without compromised immune systems this just requires good hand-washing and keeping her bedding clean. She cannot be adopted to anyone that has a compromised immune system due to these infections.

Kimberly has made great strides and continues to show improvement each week, and that, along with her sweet and playful disposition, convinces us that she has a chance at a good quality of life. She is no longer scratching non-stop her skin appears to have healed nicely. She will need owners who are willing to continue her medication (daily), keep her on a "derm" diet to promote healthier skin, and give occasional medicated baths. She will need biopsies done on a regular basis to make sure her Demodex is kept under control. She has some scarring on her skin where her coat will not grow back completely, but she is still a beautiful girl.

Due to Kimberly’s health issues we also suggest no other animals in the household and no kids under the age of 16. She can never live with any other autoimmune deficient human or animal. She will always be contagious. She will need a stress free environment as stress can cause her skin issues to flare up.

Kimberly is house trained and kennel trained
She has been spayed, vaccinated

Any potential home will be screened by Kimberly’s vet to ensure that they understand her medical needs.

While Kimberly may have some health issues she is a lovely girl with a ton to offer the right family! If you think that is you please complete a pre-adoption application on the Fuzzy Pawz Rescue website: http://www.fuzzypawzrescue.com/adoptionapplication.htm

There is a $75 adoption fee – Fuzzy Pawz Rescue has picked up the tab for her medical care up to this point.
