Hi!
My name is Daisy (or as my foster momma jokingly calls me “Crazy Daisy Doodle Head!”)
I am a black, 3 years old, female Great Dane.
I am a little on the small side at only 28” high at the shoulders.
I am good with kids.
I need at least one dog to keep me company.
I am crate-trained.
Once introduced, I am very friendly with strangers.
I am confident on leash and easily greets people.
Everyone says I'm a little special. Why might you ask? It’s because I am completely blind in both eyes. I cannot even see shadows and the vet says my right eye needs to be removed. This will be accomplished before I’m ready for adoption.
It is assumed that I’ve been blind since shortly after I was born (due to a bad infection during embryo). Unfortunately, no one provided me any vet care hence, it progressively made my eyes worse for the next two or three years.
My first home gave me to another home that had little kids. Because I could not see them, sometimes I would bump and accidentally knock them down. I was forced to be an outdoor kennel dog for the past year.
Recently, my life has vastly improved when the FFGDR rescued me. I am now a happily indoor dog, often playing with my foster 2 and 4 legged family!
In spite of my blindness, my foster momma says I get around very well and I’m not easily scared when I bump into things.
My hearing and sense of smell has taken over so I recognize those I’m with and where I’m located.
Boy, do I dearly love to play with my Dane foster brother! I will hop around like a bunny and we love to play tug 'o war with anything we can find (even if it's the garden hose and we get put in time out).
When im not playing with my one foster brother I LOVE to cuddle up and sleep with my other foster brother even if he’s takes up most of the bed.
I love to go bye-bye and I love meeting new people, even kids! As hard as I try, sometimes I accidentally (not hard) bump into them.
When that happens, I seek for forgiveness by way of lots of kisses.
Thus far, I have not met a dog I didn’t liked, no matter how big or small. In fact, I would really, really love a home that has another doggie friend or two. I so love to have someone to play and cuddle with. Plus, it also makes me feel not so lonely……
I have a small amount of separation anxiety, because when my foster momma is home, she sometimes forget to tell me that she’s going into another room. Whenever that happens, I get anxious when I can’t smell her anymore. I’d search for her and if I smell her behind a closed door or she’s outdoors, I paw (but never damaged) at the door.
I am ok in a crate but I do bark a lot, simply because I would much rather have someone sleeping close by me. Thankfully, my foster mom trusts me enough to not crate me so I can sleep with my foster brothers. However, I am not to be trusted with any open can trash. After all, I do like to try to find a midnight snack…….
I am working on my commands. I almost mastered on “Sit”. “Shake” is close but everything else we are working on.
Treats? Mom says I’m picky because I really, really only like peanut butter dog cookies. I could care less about any other treats.
I’m on the thin side, so I’m working on gaining a little weight. I was 96 lbs when I was surrendered. I’m now at 106 lbs.
I am also very good for grooming. I certainly don’t mind my nails getting trimmed, which surprised my foster momma, because my nails were almost 2 inches long. It affected my walk in a major way. My foster momma trimmed them a little bit every week until they are where they needed to be. I’m grateful because I can walk comfortably like a normal dog.
I would love to have you as my forever home! Make sure you already have at least one dog for me to play with!
