Here's what the humans have to say about me:
MEET DIXIE-
A beautiful, 14.5 lb, 11 month old, smooth red, female Dachshund. DIXIE is a bundle of cuteness and fun and this adorable princess, so loving and kind, absolutely loves to play. As the newest member of the Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. Puppy brigade, DIXIE is sure to steal your heart away. She is a delightful little lady, who also loves to snuggle and give kisses. Little Trixie has had a rough start to her life and needs some TLC, but If you're looking for a sweet girl to love and cherish, DIXIE could be the one. She is housetrained and we're learning about far she along she is with the rest of her puppy education now.
We do know that DIXIE will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds. She doesn't like big dogs and we don't know about cats yet, but she could perhaps do well with a neutered male doxie brother to play with.
Like all Dachshunds, DIXIE is high energy and enjoys playing and warming her little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around her neighborhood, little DIXIE needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.
OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.
WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:
All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.
Can you give DIXIE a happy, carefree life that she deserves? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in touch with you within 48 -72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
