COURTESY LISTING for MARLA. This dog is not at Oregon Dachshund Rescue. For information please contact Amber at 760.484.6723 or Jenell at ODR, Inc. 503 313 3220, jrangan@comcast.net
Meet Marla
Marla is a short haired, 7 year old, 20 lb, tan colored Dachshund mix who loves to be outside and go hiking with you. Marla is spayed, housetrained, car trained and leash trained with a harness. She also has a microchip and is current on her vaccinations.
According to her current owner, Marla really likes to go hiking, sun bathe, and play with squeaky toys. She also LOVES bananas and can somehow hear a banana being peeled from anywhere in the house! Marla is smart. She has not received any obedience training, but does understand some basic commands such as stay, come here, down, up, go to bed, sit, walk, eat.
Marla would do best as the only pet in a family with a stay at home parent (retired/work from home). She has lived with a cat and dog in the past. While she tolerated them, but took time to warm up. She did better living with the cat. Marla likes to play, but prefers to be the one to initiate and always makes herself the Alpha no matter what. She seems to do best with dogs similar to her size (when they start to become familiar, she wants to play and socialize). She does best with Chihuahua/Dachshund mixes. Marla is very protective of her humans and prefers to be with them all the time. She doesn’t do well with children at all and alert barks at strangers or other dogs. Unlike a lot of doxies, Marla doesn’t like to be picked up or held (unless it is on her terms and she initiates it).
ODR, INC. ADOPTION CRITERIA (aka Our Fine Print):
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember these are rescues, many were surrendered because of these issues.
