Charlie's Story...

Hello!  My name is Charlie.  I'm a 5 year-old smooth black and tan doxie of about 4.5 kg.  I am very gentle and affectionate with my people and, with lots of encouragement, am starting to see that the world isn't such a scary place.  I haven't been living with my foster parents for very long, but I really love having a routine in my life.  It's helped me a lot with my potty training and learning my manners.  I love going for lots of walks, especially because I'm not quite sure how to let everybody know that I need to go out. I'm a really quick learner and already wait until I am called before diving into my supper!  I would love a family of my own.  If you're looking for a smart little love-bug that's cheery as can be, look no further!

Charlie is an amazing little fellow.  We don't have much history on him, as he came from a puppy mill to shelter situation. He if very affectionate and loves nothing more than to be on your lap, at the centre of your attention.  He has been a pleasure to have in our home and is an all-round very sweet natured boy.  Charlie is initially very timid with strangers and other dogs.  He will bark in alarm when people arrive, however he warms-up quickly once he realizes they are friendly.  He does not like quick movements or being hovered over. He will also defend himself when he feels threatened, so he will need a home without small children. He has shown some mild separation anxiety and would do best in a home with another dog to keep him company (or a family that is home most of the day). He will whine softly if his humans are in the house and out of his reach, but has done well in the company of his foster brother while we are away at work.

He has not been tested around cats, but has shown keen interest when he spots them (and squirrels) on his walks.  His housetraining is coming along very nicely and he is 95% reliable when taken out every three hours or so.  Charlie does not pull on his leash, but really likes to take his time to sniff around and mark his territory.  He sleeps through the night in his crate (without complaint or accidents), though he greatly prefers the big bed!  He has not been crated other than at bed-time.  He is very food motivated and his learning curve definitely spikes when there's a treat involved! Charlie is a fantastic little pup with a huge heart!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Charlie, a Toronto Dachshund dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Dachshund for sale in Toronto, or seeking a Dachshund dog from a breeder in Toronto.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Toronto already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Toronto breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Dachshund breeders who help with Dachshund rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Toronto paves the way for another one to be saved.
