My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SMOKEY is a 2 year old neutered yellow male Lab that weighs 47 pounds. He is a great dog who is friendly and loves to get petted. Smokey and Simon came in to LRCP together but we found they are not bonded and can be adopted seperately . Smokey is the leader and, Simon follows along to see what is happening. Smokey likes to retrieve, Simon will get it once in a while just to terrorize Smokey. They would like a to have an family that is active and can give them love, attention, training and exercise so they will thrive.. Good with other dogs. . Knows sit come, working on other commands. Will have a Training Addendums. They haven't been on a leash much but are getting the hang of it. Do better with an Easy Walk Harness. Crate trained and are keeping their room clean at the kennel. Simon and Smokey are approved for kids ages 10+.

Update (11/14): Smokey came in with Simon, but we have determined that they are not bonded, so they may be adopted separately as long as there is another dog for companionship and to show them the ropes. Smokey is a two year old yellow neutered male. He loves to play with toys, alone or with his brother. He always takes a toy outside as a tribute to the potty gods. This week his fosters saw a new side of him while they were working on projects: he and his brother laid down quietly, out of the way, for hours, watching and just coming over for an occasional pet or hug. Smokey is crate trained and is pretty calm on walks, only pulling when he has seen deer. A rural dog, neither he nor his brother have been worried by heavy equipment, bicycles, motorcycles, cars or lawn mowers on their walks. He has no history with cats or young children, but is good with dogs of all ages. He is a pretty exuberant boy so he will have a training addendum.

Update (11/05): After being in a foster for a while, we have determined that these boys can be separated as long as they go to a home with another dog to play with. Smokey loves to retrieve a ball. He loves rope toys and unstuffies best. He is affectionate and friendly and loves to run and play. He is good in his crate, but will chew bedding etc if bored, so will need lots of exercise and to be kept busy. He is looking for an active family that will continue his training.

NOTE: Smokey & Simon are siblings who have been together since they were puppies and must be adopted together. They come from the country and have had no exposure to big cities. Placements is limited to single family stand-alone homes.

Update (10/30): Simon and Smokey love their walks- really love their walks. They have learned to sit and stay and have excellent recall. Simon is the faster learner of the two since Smokey gets a little distracted by shiny objects, but they both really want to please. They haven’t been cat tested yet but they get along fine with the resident dogs and other fosters- all of whom are at least 5 years older than them. Call your AC for a great pair of walking buddies.

Update (10/7): Smokey and Simon have settled down a little more every day they’ve been out of the kennel. They love it when we lie on the floor and scratch them- both are pretty adequate kissers. While Smokey is much more interested in toys than Simon, they both retrieve a tennis ball and drop it at our feet to be thrown again.
The boys have had very few accidents after living in a kennel for most of the last three months, which is itself a miracle. They haven’t been crated while with us, but are confined to one large room during the night and work day. They are pretty good on walks: one person can handle them easily with harnesses because they don’t really pull, but take turns sniffing.
The focus of their training has been ‘the sit’, especially as an alternative to jumping up on people. They also want to run out or in the door to stay with us, so training them to not rush a door has also been a priority. The boys will have a training addendum.

Update (9/24) Smokey is such a nice boy! He was so excited to get some love and attention from me today. Smokey is so handsome and just wants to run and play outside. He is so ready to leave the kennel and be in a loving home.

Update (8/24): Simon and Smokey are very bonded. Every time I see them, they're playing together. When they sleep, it seems they have to always be touching. This sweet pair has been waiting a long time at the kennel. Anyone looking for a pair of sweet yellows?
