My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing Dottie...the sweet girl who was rescued from a rural Oklahoma shelter after being identified with a great (and playful and fun) personality. Farfel's is very excited to have Dottie join our rescue and we have started our search for a great family for this silly girl with the dotted ears..and eye. How could we not rename her Dottie after seeing that adorable dot around her left eye?

Dottie looks like a miniature white German Shepherd but must have some Terrier in her breed to end up at a sleek and athletic 20 lbs. She's the perfect size to snuggle on the sofa (she loves belly rubs and gives the sweetest kisses), load up in the car for a fun outing and take for a long hike through the mountains.

As is often the case with rescue dogs, Dottie had a challenging life prior to her transport to Boulder. It appears that humans were unkind to her, but with patience and understanding, Dottie is learning successfully to trust people again. She is initially careful before she allows her heart to open (generally takes about 3 minutes) and feel confident that a person will show her kindness. Once Dottie feels the love, she is incredibly affectionate and cuddly. With just a bit of encouragement, she is overjoyed to play with all her heart. Dottie almost smiles as she enjoys those that she develops relationships with.

Dottie was being fostered by a family with two teenage sons. Although this family and Dottie quickly bonded, the house was the go-to spot for the neighborhood teens and their loud voices, fast movements, and booming music... proving to be an overly challenging environment for sensitive Dottie.

Dottie is thriving in her new foster home--an active household where she receives the attention and training that every dog requires to be a positive member of a family. We have found that Dottie loves to learn and please! This experience is showing that the ideal forever home for Dottie will be with an active single person or couple who have the time, energy, and desire to nurture this wonderful dog. Dottie is loving, highly intelligent, treat-motivated, and eager to please. She needs someone willing and able to continue to provide her with consistent guidance and positive reinforcement. The payoff for the lucky adopter of this dog will be immense.

At day's end, Dottie is a very young dog who can be taught (through love, nurturing and clear boundaries) that the world is a positive place and that the human touch is a loving one. She will be a super-cuddler, thrilled lap dog and ultimately a devoted and loyal best friend.

Dottie settles in nicely with both dogs and cats after a moment of assessment. She's great with them--very playful and responds appropriately. We think she'd be best placed with a family who has an energetic, playful dog that is kind, playful and self-assured.

Dottie is being fostered in Boulder. Meet and Greets are being set up and applications are currently being accepted for our sweet pup with the dark, expressive eyes and of course . . . the dot. If interested in this adorable ...and very fun and entertaining companion, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
