Facts about Merlin

  • Breed: Shepherd (Unknown Type) Mix
  • Color: Brown/Chocolate - With White
  • Age: Young
  • Size: Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
  • Sex: Male
Merlin and his 4 siblings were born around August 23, 2105. They were dropped off with their mother at the shelter when they were about a week and a half old.

While at the shelter, Merlin's mom was vaccinated with a live Distemper/parvo vaccine --the distempter virus was passed on to Merlin through his mother's milk. -- Puppies that young do not have an active immune system. His mother should have never been vaccinated with a live virus while she was nursing such young puppies.

The distemper caused a neurological disorder, which causes seizures. Merlin is on medications to control his seizures. He will likely have to be on medication his entire life.

That does not affect his ability to play and be a "normal" rambunctious puppy. Merlin is very playful and loves to wrestle, chase and play tug of war with the other dogs in his foster home.

He was originally placed in a pre-adoptive home with one of his littermates. He began having seizures around Thanksgiving. The pre-adopters decided to keep his littermate and return Merlin to our rescue.

Merlin deserves a home of his own! He is a sweet and loving boy who will steal your heart!! Please consider making this boy part of your family.

About Cherished K-9 All Breed Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Big or small we love them all!

Our mission is to rescue and re-home neglected, abused and abandoned dogs.

We are a small rescue that picks up dogs off the streets and helps them find their homes or helps them find new homes.

We also help find homes for dogs that have been relinquished by their owners. In addition, we pull last-chance dogs from our local animal shelter.

Our goal is to assist the rescue community in our area in decreasing the euthanasia rate at the shelter.

Our dogs live in foster homes while waiting to be adopted. Our fosters love and care for them as if they are their own dogs.

We cannot do what we do without your help! Foster, Adopt or Donate today!

Our Adoption Process...

After filling our our required Adoption Application, we will schedule a home visit. The home visit is to make sure our dog gets along with any existing pets in the home. We also check for obvious hazards and make sure the yard is secure.

If everything checks out OK, the next step is the Adoption Application, which finalizes the adoption. There is an adoption fee for each dog. (All dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations and micro-chipped.)

After the adoption is complete, there are follow-up wellness checks to make sure everything is working out for the adopters and the adopted dog.

At any time after the adoption is finalized, if the adopter decides to get rid of the dog, it must be returned to Cherished K-9 All Breed Rescue.
