My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Let me introduce you to Taco, an approximately 4 year old male Chihuahua. He is 10lbs and is a small calm dog with a sweet gentle personality. Although small, Taco holds his own with bigger dogs. He is quite independent but at the same time likes to be close and will follow you from room to room or snuggle up with you on the couch. He would make a great companion dog.

Taco was picked up by a rural animal control facility. He has the opportunity now to find his forever family. Taco deserves a family who is as devoted to him as he will be to them. He needs to belong in a home where he will not be allowed to roam free and be safe, and where he can be confident in that fact that he is home forever and will never be lost or abandoned again.

Taco is great in the car. Taco enjoys his daily walks and is excellent on the leash. He does well with at least two walks a day. Taco is also quiet and does not bark so he would be a great in an apartment.
Taco is house trained and will give you a sign that he needs to go out. Taco is also crate trained and sleeps in his crate at night and when alone in the house. His foster family is confident that he would be fine with the run of the house once he is well settled into his forever home. We are still in disbelief that such a beautiful and lovable dog was abandoned. Taco is good with other dogs and has settled in nicely with his foster sisters. He would do well in a home with another friendly, calm, and well behaved dog, but this is not a necessity for him. Taco would do just as well being the only dog and getting all the attention to himself.
Taco is also good with his three foster cats and pretty much ignores them. Taco is not being fostered in a home with children and we believe that with his loving nature, He would do fine with older children (over 10yrs) that have been educated on how to treat smaller dogs.

Taco has been taught basic obedience and knows "sit", “lie down”. Taco's new family should commit to continuing his obedience training to bring out the best in this little dog. In the end you will have a fantastic little dog that has all the love in the world to give. Even though he small it is very important for Taco to go to a family that understands that obedience school is a valuable tool regardless of size of dog and will be needed for him. Taco will bond faster with his new people through obedience work, and it is going to be invaluable to him in regards to socialization and confidence. Chihuahua’s are very intelligent little dogs and are capable of learning anything you are wanting to teach them. We are also looking for a family that understands that Taco must be treated like a dog, not an accessory, and needs to walk on his own 4 feet and be confident when down on the ground. It is very tempting to want to pick up and carry a small dog like Taco but lots of carrying him around is detrimental to his confidence. He needs to have rules, discipline, exercise and love like any other breed of dog to live his best life. Taco is such a lovely natured Chihuahua that we want him to stay that way. His foster home is doing an excellent job taking him out and showing him the world and he has come a long way so far. He will only continue to blossom in his forever home with a family that will incorporate the “treat him like a dog, not a toy” attitude. Taco is a true gem of a dog and we know he will be a devoted and loving companion for a very lucky person, couple, or family.

Dogs are very cute and hard to resist but they do require a lot of time commitment and are not for everyone. Taco’s rough start has not held his back from loving life and being a happy, affectionate boy. He is looking for a forever home to share his life with. If you are looking for a small dog that is independent and super sweet. Taco may just be the perfect one for you!
