Please contact Debra Hertensteiner (dezra@comcast.net) for more information about this pet.

Dewey is a 2 year old Maine Coon mix who came to the Jersey Shore Animal Center in March 2014,  after he was found fending for himself out in the cold with no place to call his own.  Dewey is stunningly handsome with his tuxedo-colored coat and has a big, outgoing personality.  The staff and volunteers at the shelter quickly fell in love with this sweet, energetic, inquisitive, take-charge fellow and made Dewey one of the resident cats at the shelter.  Dewey has enjoyed his time there, hanging out with other kitty friends, lounging in the lobby, stretching out on top of the desk, and retiring to the executive offices to help with important shelter business.

Unfortunately for Dewey, the shelter has gone through some changes and Dewey is now alone overnight and on the weekends, except when a caretaker comes at feeding time.  The staff loves him too much to let him be alone so much of the time and wants nothing more than for him to go to a wonderful forever home where he will be surrounded by the people he loves day and night.

Being a young and energetic boy, Dewey would particularly enjoy a family who will allow him to run and play, and engage him with lots of fun wand toys for some great interactive playtime.  Dewey gets along just fine with the other cats, though would prefer a home with no dogs unless they are super gentle and would give him his space.

When Dewey arrived at the shelter, it was discovered that he has a food allergy, which is being successfully controlled with a special diet, along with lysine tablets.  Dewey’s new family will need to be committed to providing for his special dietary needs. Kids 12+ are ok!

Dewey is neutered, up-to-date on his vaccinations, and has tested negative for FeLV/FIV.  He is also microchipped and has perfect litter box manners.

Dewey is located in Brick, NJ, at the Jersey Shore Animal Center. If you are interested in adopting him, please contact his caregiver, Ms. McLachlan, at info@jerseyshoreanimalcenter.org , or call 732-920-1600 from 10:00am to 4:00pm.  Dewey’s caregiver can help with transportation up to 100 miles.

About Only Maine Coons Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

At OMC! (Only Maine Coons Rescue) we are a group of volunteers with a passion to save Maine Coon/Maine Coon Mix Cats/Kittens. Each of us has an important part to play in the running of this rescue. Volunteering in our spare time to do whatever we can to save these beautiful cats from situations including being unwanted, facing euthanasia, or coming from a bad home situation. We work hard to find each and every "Coonie" the best possible "furrever" home.

OMC is composed of a network of foster homes. While we work to find our cats the "purrfect" home, we bring them into our homes. We nurture and care for them as if they were our own. Then when the time comes, we let them go to their new "furrever" home. This is always a bittersweet time for the foster parents, but then the next cat that needs saving comes along, and we do it all over again. Saving one "Coonie" at a time keeps us going strong.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We are network of foster homes. Once approved, a potential adopter may go to the foster home to meet the cat/kittens they are interested in.

Our Adoption Process...

An application is received and processed, a summary is written up from that process, the entire group votes on that applicant. IF they meet all our criteria they will be approved.

Criteria Vet reference, personal (non family) reference.

If approved, and the adopter has found a cat from our pool, they must be approved by the foster mom/dad. If approved an adoption agreement is completed, spay/neuter contract if it's a kitten that is too young to be spay/neutered. Donation is made.

fees: Each Cat/Kitten(s) will be fully vetted. Vetting includes the following vaccines, FVRCP, Rabies, Combo Tested Negative, and Spaying or Neutering.
